OSX does not care about your ram speed, though faster is always better. Most people won't notice a difference between 1600 and even 2133. Unless your doing something that is taking up all the ram and most likely technical apps, design apps, video apps, where it's swapping in and out of ram.
Most games won't see any significant boost after 1600 either.
Then again I have Samsungs VLP 30nm ram running at 2133 4x 4Gb's. Can't complain one bit but I definitely push them in my line of work
