Hi,
My first post, and my first question.

I've just build a CustoBuild with this hardware, it works fine, unless for the issue I have with the intel built-in ethernet.
It works fine in normal use, internet, mail, iphone sync, copy small files,....
but when i try to copy large amount of data, I'm changing my netgear stora with a nas4free based in my old hardware, network hangs after a while, and i need to reboot.
If i don't copy large data, It can stand for hours, in fact, it don't hangs.

I've looked for an alternative driver for this intel card, but I couldn't find.

Does anyone have an updated driver for an intel ethernet? I'm using the one from multi beast.

Thanks

PS, I've open this post in other section, sorry.

Same thing happened to me on my H87n-wifi (basically the same board). At this point my Intel port doesn't even work any more so I'm forced to use the Atheros port. The Intel port won't get an IP address for me. I've just given up on it, unfortunately. Maybe someone has a solution for us.

Bump on this.

Just installed my second build, totally straight off the Buyers Guide Mac Mini Deluxe. Did a Mac Pro before.
My computer freezes totally when transfering large files. As when I'm stress testing on internet connection and/or t*****ts.

Info:

GA-Z87N-WIFI, 8gb ram, 120gb SSD, 430w Corsair PSU.

Anyone got advice?

Ok, this is what I've tried:

Fresh install -> Multibeast 6.0 -> hnak's intel 2.5.*
Fresh install -> Multibeast 6.0 -> Atheros 1.0.2
Fresh install -> Multibeast 6.1 -> hnak's intel 2.4.*
Fresh install -> Multibeast 6.1 -> Atheros 1.0.2
Fresh install -> Multibeast 6.1 -> Atheros 1.0.2 + hnak's intel 2.4.* + Realtek
Fresh install -> Multibeast 6.1 -> Atheros 1.0.2 + hnak's intel 2.4.* + Realtek + Deltaco USB 3.0 Ethernet.

Nothing, what so ever, makes the Z87N-WIFI Ethernet work.
I'm starting to think that my motherboard is broken? Will try installing windows 7 just to confirm. I really, really, would appreciate any kind of help. My hackingtosh is a $1000 piece of **** at the moment.

I feel a bit better knowing there's others who share my problems. At the same time I feel a bit worse, that there is others who haven't solved this problem yet :(

Please keep me updated if you find anything @_mikey!

a quick update:

i've switched to the qualcomm/atheros NIC. Thought everything was good except now i get a total freeze during heavy network usage. Not a kernel panic as such, but the machine is frozen and needs a reboot. I can't find anything at all in the logs...

So we really need to find out why this intel NIC is dying

Anyone know how I can get the NIC kext to log what its doing?

So I've come a bit further.

I cleaned all .kexts and reinstalled using Multibeast 6.1, still same issues with Intel-ethernet, port 0, then I tried the second port (Atheros), and it gave me a random jibberish ip. I then unplugged the ethernet cable, and put it back in, and after 15-20 seconds it suddenly gave me a correct and working dhcp ip! And upload / download works perfect. No freezing / KP.

I was happy, accepted having to unplug the cable each restart. But then I ran into other problems. I cannot use App Store, it gives me an error trying to log in. I can't connect via Samba or Remote desktop to the hackingtosh from another computer, which make the whole build pointless since it's to be used as NAS / Plex Server.

I've never, ever, spent so much money and time on hardware before. And I think I'll never go down this road again.

The worst part is that I've built 2 other hackingtoshes, which both works flawless. Still this latest build on GA-Z87N-WIFI really sucked all happiness out of me.

So, as recommendation to others reading this thread:

!! DO NOT BUY THE GA-Z87N-WIFI !!

guys, i think i found the solution...

first i isolated the crashes to only when I access my NAS (nas4free running SMB).
mavericks uses apples implementation of SMB2, and thats where the bug is.

connect to your NAS or SMB share like this to revert back to SMB1:
instead of smb://server, connect to cifs://server

it's slower, but I've been transferring 50gigs of files and downloading for hours so far without any hangs!

PS for those with this board who can't get any connection at all, that happened to me on my first install for some reason. I thought the NIC was bad. Just reinstall. It will work. It's been a few months now and these boards have been easy to set up and stable, aside from this network bug.
