Just extract your raw DSDT and apply patches as necessary. There are a few that are pretty normal for Sandy Bridge laptops, but a lot of times you don't need any to get started.

ok so once i follow the guide and i get to the multibeast part how do i get my DSDT? I figured everything else out up to that point..... i just dont know where to go from there.

THANK YOU REHABMAN for the reply

Use MaciASL. It will load your system DSDT by default... Then the question becomes what are you trying to fix with DSDT?

SOOO i dont need to do the DSDT / multibeast unless something isnt working???

Correct. With each problem there can be a DSDT fix and/or kext fix. The best way to fix depends on the particular issue with DSDT fixes generally preferred to patched kexts/injectors.

What is the status of your install?

All laptops will require some sort of post-install work via multibeast and DSDT edits to get everything working...

I am going to do this weekend but anytime i do something i study a lot to make sure im ready.... I want to do this but the DSDT thing was kind of holding me back. SO i will do the install and run Multibeast to finish the install. After that if something doesnt work then i have to do a custom DSDT right? I guess the multibeast is what im confused on, i know that there are 2 option UserDSDT or DSDT-Free Installation. It says to use UserDSDT for sandy bridge.

UserDSDT is an OK way to start, especially if you don't know how to put together all the boot loader configuration files in /Extra (org.chameleon.Boot.plist and smbios.plist in particular). You can read about what UserDSDT does in the Multibeast documentation. The option is really optimized for desktop computers using Gigabyte boards.

For a laptop, you will need patched AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext because all laptops seem to have CPU MSRs locked. Otherwise you will experience KP at boot. Most laptops also need right away:

- patched AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement, already mentioned
- SSDT for the CPU: You can generate one using the ProBook Installer v6.1. It is the easiest way.
- DropSSDT=Yes in org.chameleon.Boot.plist. Chameleon Wizard is an easy way to set these options.
- GenerateCStates=No, GeneratePStates=No once you have SSDT in place.

From there you should have a booting system from HDD (UserDSDT installs Chimera boot loader), and then you can discover what else is wrong.

BTW, if your e6420 has the 1600x900 display, you will probably not be able to boot successfully from the HDD without DSDT patches... Let me know if that is the case, as you'll want to work on your DSDT right away.

Wow ...... so is there a tutorial or walk through to get me all that ?????

THANKS MAN

Not yet. I'm considering writing one though...

Note: Beyond power management and HD3K/HD4K graphics, laptops are very unique. Each one will present its own challenges for audio, wifi, BT, USB, DSDT, and sometimes booting (BIOS dependent). Laptops are not easy to hack. You should plan on spending a lot of time making it work and learning/reading/experimenting.
