Well the title says it all really, I was messing around with the permissions in a 100% functional 10.8 and before I looked into the Posix permissions properly I set 'everyone' to no 'access' on the system SSD.

Understanding File and Folder Permissions (POSIX) on Linux and Mac OS X (using chmod) is what I should have read first  (the ordering confused me as to what user and everyone meant)

On booting I get a white screen with a working cursor. The -x gives the same result. -v shows the attached images.

Have I totally borked it beyond repair?

There are a few files I'd like to get back if possible.

To answer my own question in case someone else stupidly does this, all I needed to do was unplug my main hard drive and use a HDD>USB adapter on my friends mac. Then it simply showed up as an external hard drive, and I could change the user right back to how they were before. All sorted.
