Ok so I took the plunge and updated the BIOS on my GA-Z68AP-D3 board to the UEFI BIOS posted on Gigabytes website (Ua5) I followed the new guide on the site for 6 series gigabyte chipsets UEFI BIOS setup, and then followed Memmerson's guide he used for his Z68 chipset board (found here: http://www.tonymacx86.com/mountain-...-uefi-bios-all-working-dsdt-not-required.html) All props to him!

Happy to report this is the fastest my system has booted up. I am running the i5 2500K with 16GB Ram and NVidia 9800GT. I have a couple issues that I am still working through mainly sleep/wake, unable to use the on-board graphics HDMI and can this proc be OC'd so that the OS recognizes? With the FD BIOS I was able to get up to 4.0GHz over the 3.3 default clock speed.

My sleep/wake issues are probably due to AppleRTC or Powermanagement. If I put the machine to sleep manually - everything goes to sleep - but I can only wake the machine - the display stays black. If I do a scheduled or timed sleep, the display goes dark but the machine continues to run - I CAN wake the display in this instance.

With the on-board graphics, at the boot screen I get a ton of artifacts and then the system calls for a reset. I am hoping to get mirroring working with the i5's HD3000 capability. My system definition is iMac 12,2 so I thought it should work.

AS far as OC'ing the proc, I have tried disabling Turbo and manually changing the clock speeds, Manually changing each core and leaving core 4 one setting below the other 3, enabling turbo and using the auto settings, changed SSDT file from i5 to overclocked i5 - nothing seems to work. Geekbench is maxed at 10,000 whereas before I could get up to 12,000 with the DSDT method.

I'll keep experimenting and report back any success I'm sure MultiBeast 5.0 will solve some of these issues (using 4.6.1 right now) - however any others who have this board and solved any of these issues I ain't too proud to take advice! On a side note the UEFI must have been dreamed up by a hackintosher' because it is so simple to work with! I have yet to get a KP of any kind!

Ok so I cheated a little bit and found this SleepEnabler Kext that works flawlessly in ML. http://www.osx86.net/downloads.php?do=file&id=2972

Just place it in your S/L/E folder, repair permissions and reboot and Sleep/Wake works no issues in BIOS or restart. Now just need to work on OC'ing the processor and getting on board HD3000 graphics to work.

Considering the jump too

JB
After several weeks of trying to install different versions of OSX, I have never got a fully working system and so I am considering UEFI.
My major concern is triple booting with OSX/Win7/Ubuntu, but it doesn't look like you have been down that road.

I have immediately failed in this new venture.
How do you install UEFI?
The download is an exe and the note says that you should only install with the attached installer.
Does that mean you have to install from an existing OS, perhpas Windows?
Surely that would corrupt the windows installation,ie it wouldn't boot? Perhpas you just accept this anyway as you will always have to install a new OS???
After a google, I am slightly amazed that there does not appear to be any instructions.
Can you point me in the right direction?
Many thanks
CK

**EDIT**
Don't worry, I googled your description and found that you were referring to TonyMac, not the Gigabyte site
http://www.tonymacx86.com/123-how-upgrade-bios-uefi-gigabyte-s-6-series-motherboards.html
..pretty useless that Gigabyte do not give any instructions!

I actually had to send a support email to Gigabyte - once I made the flash drive bootable I was good to go. Then I saw TMac86 had a tutorial. You should be able to dual boot as long as when you are in the BIOS settings you choose the ML disk to boot first. I plan on installing Win7 this week-end.

Make sure you choose the non-UEFI version of your drive or you will not get anywhere. Once you go into the settings for boot order you'll immediately see what I mean. The OS drives have a regular and then a UEFI version for boot purposes.

I don't believe it...

I took the plunge as well, but...
my installation experience so far as been VERY similar to that with BIOS, have have installed 3 times since changing to UEFI
My immediate problem was/has been keyboard/mouse not responsive for several minutes unless I choose -f from chameleon.
Are you in the US? Perhaps these problems are something to do with UK keyboards.

After install, I got a non-HD desktop (1024x780). Could this be caused by choosing -f?
Did you follow the Memmersons guide re post installation?
I chose all the same options, immediately on booting got a panic with AppleCPUPowerManager (one of the kexts chosen to be replaced).

Could Apple distribute different Mountain Lion downloads at different times, therefore different kext versions etc? This may explain why I have so many problems and others do not.
During install, if I choose OSX Installer-About OSX Installer, I get Version 401 (419)
If you get a chance to boot with your Unibeast, would you mind checking?
(I'm assuming this is part of the download rather than Unibeast)

Use the latest Chimera download instead of Chameleon. Also there is a different patched version of AppleIntelCUPPowerManagement.kext out there for 10.8 - I think its on this site. And yes I am in the US. Are you using Apple products? - I have Magic Mouse, trackpad and wireless KB all using the targus Bluetooth dongle. What GPU are you using? There are some strange happenings with certain cards out there and you may need to boot GraphicsEnabler=No

HMMM...when I installed I simply partitioned my drive and installed. It took about 20 minutes. Once I installed here is what I installed (see screenshots below) then install Chimera 1.11 from this website. Be sure to use the 64-Bit boot flag - if you do not have an i5 or i7 processor you do not need a SSDT.aml file - I have an overclocked i5 so I chose the 3rd option. Depending on your graphics card you may need to boot GraphicsEnabler=No or PCIRootUID=0. When in doubt google is a friend - chances are others have the same problem. Also your issue with the installation problems may lie with your RAM. Try installing with one ram slot only and see how that goes if you reboot.

Can't wait...

JB
thank you so much for replying, and so quickly.
I'm away for a few days and really keen to get back to try your suggestions.
I would very much appreciate you checking the thread in a week or so.
For information, I have a 3770K, trying to use the onboard graphics which I assume uses the 4000 graphics capability of the CPU.
I trying to use a uk pc keyboard and pc mouse (both USB).
many thanks
CK

***EDIT***
For information, I tried to follow the TonyMac instructions for creating a bootable USB to install UEFI, but the suggested program did not work for me at all. I had to find instructions for creating a bootable Win98 USB stick which used a utility form HP and Win98 'image' files.
In a moment of desperation, I also tried to install from my Win7 partition. This failed as I have a 64Bit OS which is incompatible.
Since installing UEFI, I have found that my existing Win7 and Ubuntu do start using Chimera although Win7 complains that the boot loader is missing, and so I have to choose Ubuntu first and use the Grub boot loader to choose either Win7 or Ubuntu.

Man! I have the same motherboard and the same BIOS on Mountain Lion. And I'm happy that I'm not the only one with that sleep problem.

I have fully working DSDT.aml with SSDT from tonymacx86. I think that there is a problem in FACS and FADT.aml tables. I know that some manufacturers are too lazy to get right tables and that tables contain wrong number of CPU and so on. I saw it somewhere, but now I don't know what to do with that.

Besides my computer went to sleep automatically last night. Maybe it was too delayed, but it was working. Other things work flawlessly.

We can keep in touch on this issue.

In fact it's not kext problem because all worked perfect on FD bios. I migrated to UEFI just because of UEFI, not perfect with that sleep problem.

I think the new MultiBeast solved the problem. Installed the 10.8 patched AppleIntlelCPUPowerManagement.kext, removed sleepenabler. Sleep seems to be working normally.....
