I did have a Kernel Panic for the first boot attempt but that seemed to happen every so often with Lion as well.
Is there a resource or book I can use to learn more about how all this works?

So it looks like "-v PCIRootUID=1 GraphicsEnabler=Yes" DOES manage to successfully get me to the log in screen...
Okay using just the normal boot with -v I am getting the monitory cycling -> sleep. Here is a screenshot (I think I was able to get everything before the monitor went blank)...

Both ports are DVI, though one of them is hooked up to an VGA adapter cable. I have another DVI cable that I can use but haven't made the switch yet.
This one will end with the monitor cycling -> sleep mode.

Okay, I went to boot the install drive (or so I thought), walked downstairs to get something to drink, and when I returned, found that I was at the login screen. Not to look a gift horse in the mouth I decided to take this opportunity to run Multi-Beast.
I restarted and booted the drive...
