    Questions on Using APFS

I've now successfully updated to High Sierra—everything seems to be working fine so far. I have some questions about the new APFS. Should I (and if so, how do I) update other SSD drives to APFS? And if I'm cloning my system drive, which is now APFS, to a regular MacOS Extended drive using CC...

Update Directly to macOS High Sierra

This didn't work for me. Installer still hangs at Apple logo. :(

Update Directly to macOS High Sierra

Followed all instructions for APFS. When I run the installer, the system reboots, I select Boot macOS Install, but it just hangs at the Apple logo. Any ideas?

Almost Everything Working but USB 3.0 - Any Suggestions?

OK, I'm guessing it's "GenericUSBXHCI.kext." I removed that and now USB 3.0 is working, HOWEVER, at about 2/3 the speed I was getting under Mavericks. Not a major problem for me as I don't use USB 3.0 that much, but it would still be nice to get that resolved.

Almost Everything Working but USB 3.0 - Any Suggestions?

Does anyone know kext that is? I don't see any obvious candidates in S/L/E.

    Cannot get CPU temps

You're totally right. Although I wasn't able to locate an E/E folder on any of the other drives, just to test the theory, I popped open the case and unplugged all the drives but the main boot. Installed FakeSMC from Multibeast, and Voila. CPU temps. I'm really glad I looked into this, because it...

    Cannot get CPU temps

I have seven drives. I'm booting from "Macintosh HD." I have that cloned to "Clone". And I have a Sandbox on "Zack's Backup". (So that's three bootable volumes.) Two of the drives are combined in a stripe raid. I see there are some recovery partitions from some of these drives, which were...

    Cannot get CPU temps

Well, something strange is going on because I don't have an E/E folder at all. This is a completely new system, just set up and configured this week. I am indeed using ML with the latest Multibeast. localhost:Extra zack$ ls -la total 24 drwxr-xr-x 7 zack staff 238 Jul 16 08:09 . drwxr-xr-x...

    Cannot get CPU temps

Sorry -- I'm booting directly to the HD. And yes, I do have FakeSMC in /S/L/E! Which ones should I delete?

    Cannot get CPU temps

bdmesg gives me this: Read HFS+ file: [hd(0,1)/Extra/Extensions/FakeSMC.kext/Contents/MacOS/FakeSMC] 4096 bytes. Read HFS+ file: [hd(0,1)/Extra/Extensions/FakeSMC.kext/Contents/MacOS/FakeSMC] 103920 bytes.

    Cannot get CPU temps

Thanks, Rehab. This is a totally fresh build, so there aren't any earlier installs. I did find a few of these in my log though: 7/18/13 7:40:21.000 PM kernel[0]: Refusing new kext org.netkas.driver.FakeSMC, v489.0: already have prelinked v480.0. 7/18/13 7:40:21.000 PM kernel[0]: FakeSMCDevice...

    Cannot get CPU temps

The answer to your first question is YES, I have installed FakeSMC, with plugins, multiple times. But still I'm only getting HD temps, mostly. This is with iStat, and HWMonitor. This is a Z77 with an i7-3770 (no k). I tried different system profiles, thinking that might help, but no. I'm not...

Cannot get past Apple and Spinning Loading Screen on USB Boot

That's correct. But if you're unable to get in even with safe mode, your issue may be worse than mine. I was always OK with safe mode. I highly recommend booting ML into verbose mode (-v) and seeing where it hangs. It should give you a clue what's happening.

Cannot get past Apple and Spinning Loading Screen on USB Boot

One thing I've noticed since my last post is that I still have to use the Chimera on my USB drive. So I might need to reinstall that. But otherwise, it boots into the main ML install fine.
