This is interesting, I'll try this out in a few weeks as I'm out of the country next week. Hopefully someone else can try this out and confirm this works. Nice one though!
With the latest beta I still get freezing that needs a restart :(
I didn't need to add the id to the kext though, but I did need to keep integrated graphics enabled.
I tried the DisplayPort next to the HDMI but I still get a black screen. I've updated the VII to the latest BIOS that came out the other day. Some good news – the fans now seem to be far louder (comparable to Windows) when gaming in macOS and the backplate is no where near as hot as it was...
The backplate isn't really conclusive in terms of temperature though, as the V64 cards had a different cooling profile – not to mention they used more power. I noticed the difference clearly when playing the same games from Steam on my VII compared to using the VII in Windows. The fan was...
I've noticed that the RVII fans don't ever get loud with macOS, compared to Windows (especially with lots of browsing, which is all hardware accelerated). It could be that the hardware sensors are not working correctly, thus the fans aren't cooling the GPU effectively, leading to the freezes.
That’s what I also discovered earlier, too. I enabled the integrated video to get it working. Unfortunately, I. too get the lock up issue and that’s without using Safari - just VSCode. :(
I'm really not sure as to why it works with this setting enabled. I assume it's using the integrated graphics from my 8700k, which must be why. The black screen I get if I disabled integrated graphics is strange – it's like it's loaded macOS but has lost display connection (I've tied HDMI vs DP...
Good news. I now have my Radeon VII fully working with 10.14.4 beta 3. After trying literally everything I found out how to get past the black screen. I had to enable the integrated graphics in the BIOS (although it's never used). No other setting really made a difference, it was just having the...
I managed to fix the issue and successfully boot into macOS. Strangely enough, I had to enable integrated graphics in the BIOS (even though I don't use it). I have no idea why this works, but running benchmarks show that it's working as expected with hardware acceleration.
As I mentioned in my above post, I think I might have something else that is causing the issue – possibly with my Clover kext setup. I have the following kexts enabled:
FakeSMC.kext
Lilu.kext
WhateverGreen.kext
I don't believe I have any other config, but maybe one of the above is conflicting...
I got my hands on Mojave 14.4 beta 3 today and I've made some progress. After changing the 5000kext info.plist, I can now get past the macOS loading screen (it would hang on it before). I now get a black screen after though. I think I might have something else that is causing the issue –...
I have an update. I managed to get the latest Mojave beta (14.4 beta 3). There's definitely progress since before. After modifying the kext file, the macOS load screen gets to 100%, the screen changes resolution but then goes black and hangs there. Previously, the macOS load screen would never...
