No, I never managed to make it work.

I've hit a small issue. When I plug in a monitor via the HDMI cable or display port, the screen on the laptop turns off. I cannot see anything in the BIOS to change this behaviour, has anyone else experienced this? Thanks in advance, Tony.

Looks like it's called the "grey screen of death". Everything I can see on Google suggest a hardware issue. Maybe one of the kexts does not work properly with Catalina? Just a guess though. I've got to stick with Mojave for now as I need 32 bit apps to work.

Don't know if this helps. I had similar issues with Mojave. If I saw that message, I had to re-download the installer and try again.

Other than this, was there anything else you needed to do to go to Catalina?

I had lots of trouble getting wifi working using Broadcom cards. In the end I bought the Apple BCM94360CS2 and an adapter (https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/173708885223). Sadly it doesn't fit into the case, so I cut a little plastic away from the bottom cover to make it fit. Works perfectly, and also...

I don't have the trackpad or FileVault working yet. As soon as I've got filevault going, I'll get to work on the trackpad. The trackpad is not that important for me though as I usually use my existing Mac via remote desktop. But FileVault is something I definitely want.

If it helps, I've almost got mine working fully. I followed the guide at https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/guide-asus-rog-gl552vw-laptop-macos-mojave.280413/ The hardware is very similar. All I need to get working now are the touchpad and filevault.
