Mac mini owner venturing into Hackintosh land

Ok I'm back, been having trouble with the new host. I ordered a 2150, now to decide on a motherboard. I'd like to be able to upgrade to an IB i5 so I want to keep it future proof into the mountain Lion with a 7 series board. So far I've had my attention on the Asrock Z77E-ITX, ASUS P8Z77-I...

    [SUCCESS] i5-3570K + Zotac Z77-ITX A-E + Lion 10.7.4.

I'm considering using this case for my mini build. Can I get by using normal sized ram that doesn't have a taller heatspreader, or would I have to use these shorter sticks?

    tonymacx86 Build - GA-H55N-USB3 - Core i3-530 (Mini-ITX)

Just want to make sure. I've read some posts that users have updated to newer versions of osx and some things no longer work. My memory may be incorrect but possibly audio, usb, sleep etc. breaking after an update. So is it safe to assume, that any of your recommended builds are working solid...

Mac mini owner venturing into Hackintosh land

Its funny, I want to go small, I love the way the Mac Mini fits anywhere. I thought I had it figured out with the FT03 Mini, but of course google shows me more options with smaller cases and throws a wrench into the mix lol. But I'll probably go with the EI7 and discrete graphics card after...

Mac mini owner venturing into Hackintosh land

Ok, thought I was all set with my case decision, but I just discovered the Realan E17 and Habey EMC-800BL. I like these cases because they are very similar to the small footprint that the Mac Mini offers and is much cheaper than the FT03 case and psu. Habey doesn't make a case that supports a...

Mac mini owner venturing into Hackintosh land

Thanks Stig, I mean osxman;) Very helpful post, I'll look more closely at this board. I like the fact that the gpu is fanless! So its possible to use the hdmi out on the motherboard and a discrete gpu at the same time? Cross my fingers for this.

Nice build! The FT03 Mini only supports mini-itx though.

Yep, glanced over that, thanks for reminding me, its a great resource. So I can assume they are close to if not 100% compatible with 10.7.4? Edit: Also added that I'd like a 20-pin usb3.0 header on the m/b as well.

Mac mini owner venturing into Hackintosh land

Hi all, Planning on getting rid of my mac mini and building a custo-Mac Mini and I'm really excited about it. History: I've been an enthusiast pc builder (especially silent pcs) for about 7 years and just recently left windows to a full osx environment after I picked up a MBA. That led me to...

    tonymacx86 Build - GA-H55N-USB3 - Core i3-530 (Mini-ITX)

Can anyone verify this works 100% with 10.7.4? Planning on copying this build sourcing used parts.
