When I get a free chance I’ll try this out. I should note however that I upgraded my SSD to a 2GB NVMe so my mileage may differ from yours. That said, I have not had any problems since switching due to the SSD.
Emulation takes up a ton of processor power. It’s effectively re-rendering machine code in real time. If you were to emulate X86, it would be much slower. You need to have realistic standards here.
I’ve been trying a number of things on my end. I’m using the Thunderbolt 3 fix I laid out above, but also following the Framebuffer patching guide. That fixed some slowness issues with HDMI, but it doesn’t work on every profile—I had to switch to Macbook15,2 to get it to work.
Will offer a...
A note for anyone curious: I upgraded the RAM to 32GB in this machine with no problem—it worked perfectly and was relatively cheap. (I bought 2x16 Corsair chips, if you’re curious.) I’m also looking into upgrading the SSD to 2TB in the coming months, though I haven’t tried it yet and am hoping...
For anyone still following this that was having issues with USB-C hotplug on the Thunderbolt port, this technique here solves the problem. (Assuming it also works for TB3 proper, but I don’t have any TB3 devices.)
That’s a huge bummer, I’ll keep an ear out and see what I can find. FWIW, it seems like the trackpad on your Spectre model is giving some Linux users problems as well: https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=201775
OK, doing some research on the lockup issue: A lot of lockups that happen with two minutes left appear to be a side effect of the APFS not properly formatting on the drive. Assuming that’s the issue, you have both apfs.efi and ApfsDriverLoader-64.efi in your drivers64UEFI folder. You need to...
To clarify, does it lock up on the initial boot into the installer or on the reboot, when it just shows the black screen with the Apple logo? Since you’re mentioning mouse functionality it seems worth asking.
When I get a little more time I’ll try to dig into your config.plist to see if anything’s off, but @jm52262's recommendation sounds like a good lead. You may need to do some DSDT patching on your USB before you finish installing.
Thanks, just tried it. It seems to have made a lot of progress, but I ended up turning it off because it seems to lead the battery to drain while it’s sleeping. Perhaps the trackpad is too sensitive? (I’ll give it another shot when I’m less busy.) I think it’s looking really close, though I miss...
Perhaps you can try installing it on an external drive first? I think the preferred method for setting up Mojave is to install it on an external SSD and use Carbon Copy Cloner to copy it over.
In the case of the HP software, yeah, that’s basically because you haven’t had a chance to copy over...
