mines mysteriously stopped working also. i was using synaptic 4.3. last night, i kext wizard elanTouchpad v2.8.3 and everything trackpad/smarttouch wise is functional. i notice you have an asus. i have an asus x202e so i believe the file i used should work for you as well.
