finally tried it over the weekend on my G31m. he's right it sounds much better.
like shibirian, i only get front channel stereo 32bits at 48Khz.

i used Tony's xMove method to do my Lion install for my laptop.
because i was familiar with it on my desktop install.
i decided to carry on and tweak it a little bit for the Dell 1720.
for my post installation experience.
i had to rollback a few kexts to make my Lion install work...
i used the same xMove methodology to install Lion on my laptop.
and i have to tweak it a little bit by adding my extra folder (from my working 10.6.8) into the 8GB Installer partition.
and then in the same Installer partition, in S/L/E i have to rollback a few kexts:
AppleACPIPlatform.kext -->...

Lion installation was flawless with xMove on my gigabyte board.
followed Tony's instructions to the letter.
for those needing to know whats going on with the installation.
aside from the progress bar and HDD light
you can always open the installers installation log window.
ditto to stork's comments above. and while you're still in disk utility
do a disk verify - just to check volume integrity, file linkages, hierarchy, etc.
files with permission problems will be flagged.
i also do this before an update and before i make a back-up clone.

yes thats strange. because other than that everything else tells you its 4096MB.

rollback S/L/E/AppleACPIPlatform.kext -->10.6.7
rollback S/L/E/IOPCIFamily.kext --> 10.6.7
remove S/L/E/AppleHDA.kext --> im using VoodooHDA.kext
wifi was okay - i have a dw1505 - no need to change IO80211Family.kext
