Yes and no. I'm a huge proponent of right to repair, just to put it out there.
I can see locking some things down so average users don't inadvertently screw something up. However, locking parts to a serial number, like Apple has done to the iPhone, is not the way to go.
100% agree with not...
The current Mac Pro should've been priced at around $3000-$3500 with its base configuration. People go that route because of the expandability that it offers. But $6000 for the base model is a joke.
If the smaller form factor Mac Pro does become reality with a much more affordable entry price...
Watch it be underpowered and horribly priced, much like the current Mac Pro that ships with an RX580 for $6000! This is one of the reasons why I got forced into building a Hackintosh and damn proud of it.
This is the first thing I thought of but it didn't help. I would get a low res display at the Open Core boot screen. After selecting, it would continue to be low res unless I restarted.
Wanted to add a couple things about my build.
Haven't tried wake from sleep yet and just shutting down when I'm not using it. But I did notice that at some startups, the graphics won't display properly. I'm running a 4k UHD (3840x2160) display and it will sometimes startup displaying some lower...
@CaseySJ Apologies for the late update, been a busy week and couldn't get to tinkering with my Hack until today. Anyway, just want to say thanks again for all your help with getting macOS installed! What did you do to my EFI settings so I can get it to finally install macOS after my attempts...
For some reason I'm not getting notifications when people response to this thread so I'm just seeing this. Thanks for the EFI folder! I'll give it a try tomorrow and post an update.
Out of curiosity, did you see any issues in the EFI folder I uploaded? I'm always eager to learn what may or may...
Yes, I did go into Opencore Configurator (v2.22) to verify the Platform info was correct after generating a new SMBIOS by HackinDROM. This is with the AMD-config.plist from the 0.6.5 folder from a few pages back. I do get a message in Opencore Configurator saying that the NVRAM isn't native and...
Here's the process:
-Create Big Sur install (11.1) using downloaded installer from Apple and terminal command
-Used the mini guide to create an EFI folder with OC 0.6.3 and followed all the steps from this guide
-Made Platform info with this utility
-Once all the steps were finished, changed...
For some reason all my install attempts don't show the Opencore picker. When I push F12, I'll get the dialog for the UEFI folder but it goes straight into trying to install Big Sur. At that point I get the Apple logo then the X like in the photo in my last post. Is the config.plist in the zip...
So I followed the guide at every step and this is the screen I got when I tried installing Big Sur. Tried both with Opencore 0.6.3 according to the guide and 0.6.5. I'm also installing Big Sur 11.1 since that's what is available through the App Store.
Thinking it was Apple thwarting Hack...
Thank you! I'll give it a try and update later today, need to get some sleep.
By the way, I tried putting the files you uploaded on here a couple pages back for Opencore 0.6.5 in my EFI folder and got a message saying something along the lines of "unable to find OS on internal... error". I...
Hey guys! Long time lurker, first time posting.
I'm trying to install Big Sur on my PC but I'm stuck at the Apple logo. This is a brand new build so a fresh install. I'm using the latest release of Opencore and Big Sur and following several guides/videos. All install disks and any work done in...
