Installing Sierra or High Sierra on an ASUS ZenBook 14 UX410UA-GV410T?

Thanks for the tip. I had not found your guide before. I just read it and I will follow it. Like you I am not very savvy in that field. I've been using it under Windows so far. The hardware is pretty good. Yet the trackpad is a bit erratic. I had not used Windows since XP and I find W10 even...

    Laptop Compatibility

OK. Thanks. And what about RJ45 (via an adapter), SD card reader and connection to an external monitor via USB-C/DisplayPort? Nick

I'll go for it. It has a reputation of being difficult for a not very savvy like me. I'll try anyway. Nick

    Laptop Compatibility

I don't remember the details but it's what I read in the Sierra Laptop Support and High Sierra Laptop Support forums. If it's clean it's OK for me. ;-) Do you prefer Mojave over Sierras? My concern is with the USB ports and stuff like LAN through an adpater as well as the SD card reader. Nick

Installing Sierra or High Sierra on an ASUS ZenBook 14 UX410UA-GV410T?

Hi all As a I was shopping for a MacBook a friend of mine showed me his ASUS ZenBook 14 UX410UA-GV410T. It probably has a different reference in the US than here in France because I couldn’t find it on Amazon.com. It has exactly the specs I need and that I don’t find among the MacBooks: RAM is...

What PC laptops are best to make a hackinbook?

Hi all I’ve seen on tonymacx86 some installations of OS X on PC laptops but it seems to be usually with a legacy computer. OTOH if one plans to buy a new laptop are there advices as to what maker and what models are best or at least what specs are most likely to work with OS X? TIA for you...

The FireWire 800/400 card to own for 100% compatibility

I don't see the Texas Instrument (TI) logo on the chip. Mac OS has no native driver for other chips since Apple used only that brand. It seems you have a compatibility issue. Nick

The FireWire 800/400 card to own for 100% compatibility

I think you should stay on the safe side and go for a TI chipset equipped card rather than an unknown brand sporting a VIA card and sold on eBay in a remote country. Nick

The FireWire 800/400 card to own for 100% compatibility

It's because this card has a VIA chipset whereas Mac OS's FireWire driver is designed for the Texas Instruments (TI) chipset only. That's because when Macs had a FW port Apple's only supplier was TI so they didn't create drivers for other vendors' chipsets. I am in France too and the card I...

    MoBo replacement advice needed

It's terrible how reviewing parts and shopping can be time consuming! I made a spreadsheet of the different 270 series MoBos with their specs, their prices, their availability, their compatibility with my legacy stuff and with Mac OS and my requirements: • I own a legacy FireWire PCI card that I...
