Updated to macOS Catalina with the Supplemental Update.
The only problems encountered:
1) Bluetooth stopped working. A bit of searching on the web shows that 10.15 requires different kexts (BrcmBluetoothInjector.kext and BrcmPatchRAM3.kext)

It turns out that the problem was that the Apple default USB port injectors for the MacBookPro7,1 were also messing with the OHCI controller. Renaming OHCx -> OH0x in config.plist did the trick.

Well, okay. I'm sorry that hear that you can't help. But don't you find the challenge of getting this old hardware to work properly intriguing?

I have previously read "[Guide] 10.11+ USB changes and solutions". It was based on this guide that I added the following DSDT patches in config.plist:
1. Renamed EHCx->EH0x
2. Renamed _OSI to XOSI
There are no USB3 ports on this laptop, so the discussion in the guide about XHCI controller does...

I tried to fix the Bluetooth problem by removing DellBluetoothHCI.kext and just adding the device definition (under IOKitPersonalities) for Dell DW370 in the BroadcomBluetoothHostControllerUSBTransport plugin of IOBluetoothFamily.kext as follows:

I upgraded to macOS High Sierra (10.13.6). That fixed the problem with the DVD-RW drive. It is now recognized by the SATA Controller as "TSSTcorp DVD+-RW TS-D633A" and works with the DVD Player.
I still have the problems with Bluetooth and USB described above.
