I had the same issue.
For me to fix, using the Software Update, after some loading it reboots the first time, choose the default it gives you in Clover which is the Preloader option, once it loads for a bit it will dump you back to Clover again, this time change it and choose the Preloader...
Thanks Mr Bond. That worked very well for me. Proved the USB first as you recommended and then I booted from the HDD backup clone and once at the desktop using Carbon Copy Cloner made a full transfer of all files over to the SSD. Restarted and booted ok from the SSD. The backup clone really was...

All fixed. Deleted all files from the Hard Disk EFI folder then I copied the whole EFI directory off of the boot USB onto the mounted Hard Disk EFI partition. . Also did a "nvram-c" before copying across (not sure if this done anything).

So it was late last night and I went to try and get my new Dell DW1560 (BCM94352Z chip) m.2 WiFi/Bluetooth card working in my Gigabyte H170N-WIFI mobo.
