I am having the same issue with the Intel DH57DD and 889. VoodooHDA.kext works (mostly) and leaving it with that as I've tried many combinations of the legacy889HDA HDAEnabler combo's combined with 10.6.2 rollback AppleHDA.
So far with Voodoo the audio loads up fine on 10.6.3.
I added "-f" to the kernel flag (correctly this time) in the com.apple.BOOT.plist and now both computers load up correctly with audio. For some reason, the core i7 machine only sees the HD audio outputs and not the regular ones. Not a big issue for my purposes though.

So I changed over to the VoodooHDA.kext and now audio works! I'm having a problem with the start up however. I get a kernel panic (with a message about the VoodooHDA) unless I add the boot flag "-f". Doing this makes everything load correctly.
Should I add this command as a kernel...
Update: Still no dice with the audio. I've also tried SMbustype=0103 on the dual core system, but it still reads "unknown" for processor type. Argh. Anyone wanna chat it up real quick? :P
