    Official HD 4000 Support

UseKernelCache=No seems to have fixed up my graphics acceleration. It sometimes worked, sometimes didn't. I rebooted it three times in a row with no acceleration, then saw your post. Thanks for the tip. Boot time seems okay for now, so I'm leaving it be.

    automatically updated to 10.8.2

I've restarted a couple of times since then, and I'm still on 10.8.1. I'm going to wait a bit. In the meantime, I'm monitoring the '10.8.2 GA-B75M-D3P Issues' thread.

Many success builds with a GA-B75M board

Why so few builds with GA-B75M ? The mATX boards on the recommended list were at the bottom of my list at first, but I realized that they're a better fit for my needs. I don't overclock, I don't need that many drives or expansion cards, and I can drive a high-resolution monitor with the...

    automatically updated to 10.8.2

I turned off automatic installation before restarting, and I'm still on 10.8.1.

    automatically updated to 10.8.2

Although I had planned to wait another week or two, then use the combo updater, I forgot to turn off automatic installation. Now I have a notification that "Your computer will restart to complete this update." Anything in particular I should be careful of before rebooting?

Z77 mATX Motherboards and OS X

Great post, but I'm curious about this premise. What missing capabilities do you see as a deal breaker in boards using other chipsets? I would rate DisplayPort as a higher priority than, say, a second SATA III port, so that the HD 4000 can drive a nice 27" or 30" monitor.

Suggest a graphics card for me!

Have a look at the Graphics Card Hierarchy Chart on the last page of "Best Graphics Cards for the Money" at Tom's Hardware. Here's the September edition: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-graphics-card-review,3107-7.html I don't know about compatibility, but your 9800 GT is...

Apple said to have canned entry-level iMac

Article: Apple said to have canned entry-level iMac I switched from Windows to Mac largely because of product activation in Windows XP. I just couldn't see myself calling some call center in India every time I upgrade the motherboard, video card, etc. I'm on my third iMac at work, and I was...

best system for new mac build

I followed the CustoMac buyer's guide to build an Ivy Bridge system running 10.8. Here are some of the decisions I made to narrow down the options. I decided to stick with integrated HD 4000 graphics for now. In addition to the CPUs in the buyer's guide, the following low-power CPUs have HD...

    Quiet Server Build

I'm not an overclocker myself. I figure it's one more thing I have to check when something goes wrong (and something always goes wrong). On the contrary, I chose the slightly slower 3770S (65 W TDF) for my system, figuring that it will be easier to cool quietly than a 3770 or 3770K (77 W TDP)...

    RETINA Hackintosh?

I guess it depends on what you mean by retina. In general, the display is your first and biggest problem, whether it's a 15" display at 2800 x 1800, or a desktop display at 4K.

    Quiet Server Build

I see from a review that the Define R4 uses drive trays with rubber grommets, similar to my old Antec case, which I don't find to be very effective at preventing vibration. Eight spinning-rust drives are going to be loud. The high-end GPU isn't going to help. For a server, I'd stick with the...

    HDD and SSDs for CustoMac

From my research, which is far from scientific, the three most reliable brands are Intel, Intel, and Crucial. I have an Intel 320 in my MacBook. I missed out on Newegg's Labor Day sale and rebate for the Intel 520. I settled for the Sandisk Extreme, which was on sale last week. Then I kicked...

512 B drives still simpler than 4 KB for 10.8?

I'm putting together a 10.8 system with an Ivy Bridge CPU and B75 motherboard. I have a 256 GB SSD on the way, and I'm trying to decide on a 2 - 3 TB HDD. I want to clone the SSD to a partition on the HDD, so that I can boot from the HDD if necessary (with or without the SSD connected)...

Looking for an affordable Z77 card with integrated DisplayPort ...

I think I'll switch my order to the B75. It has more reviews, discussions, and updates. Realtek Ethernet support is apparently no worse than Intel. Plus, it's $30 cheaper.
