Just tried it, it works but when i launch a GPU heavy application the system hangs, so not very stable sadly.
Thanks for the assist.
Edit:
This is the LuxMark score:
So I just upgraded from a HD 7970 to a R9 290X card. My 7970 was working flawlessly straight OOB. R9 290X? Not so much. I got the black screen after startup and monitor went into sleep mode. I have been reading about setting onboard intel GFX as primary and attaching both VGA (from intel GFX)...
Never mind my last post.
Seems that 10.7.2 installed the bundle I deleted.
However!
I still only have a white screen and nothing else with my 6970 card.
Getting really frustrated here.
10.7.2 did NOT add native 6970 support :( :( :( :(
Any help is appreciated...
Okay, so installed the 10.7.2 update.
Only problem: I deleted my ATIRadeonX3000VADriver.Bundle file in a previous attempt to get my card to work. Where can I locate that file on my Lion DMG?
Any help would be appreciated.
I ended up with installing an old Matrox graphics adaptor.
This way I could upgrade to 10.6.8.
After that I upgraded to 10.7 but the 6970 is still not supported.
Some say that 10.7.2 will support the 6970 card.
I am waiting for this update and will of course report back with my experiences.
Aww snap!
Thanks for taking the time to answer this post.
I do bellive that I have seen people with working HD 6950 and 6970 cards?
Just no Acceleration, but still they have a picture and I do not :(
Guess I will have to wait to 10.7.2
Any ideas when that will hit?

I built a system on which I didn't intend to run OSX. However I was inspired and now I really want this OS to run on my system
My system is composed of:

I am in the exact same situation as the guy above..
Since I have a XFX 6970 I am unable to install the 10.6.8 update, it will just boot to a blue screen with no mouse arrow and then I am stuck.
Do I need to buy a compatible card and install the 10.6.8 update - install Lion and then swap back to...
