Be aware of the fact that there are more recent versions of the kexts available and that I am still running macOS High Sierra 10.13.6.
Your motherboard needs a Thunderbolt header that is placed directly next to a particular PCI-e slot. You cannot "plug-and-play" the card into any motherboard.
After cleaning up the system from Nvidia leftovers, etc., my Hackintosh was booting flawlessly and launched macOS without any issues or any BIOS setting changes applied. It was the first straight plug-and-play experience for years!:clap: Till date, the Radeon RX 580 is working perfectly in...
Sorry @jiffyslot , I just have seen that you added the question to your post. Yes, I am still using that ancient GPU on High Sierra 10.13.6. I do not have the Nvidia Web Drivers installed anymore as it seems to work without them in my case. However; i recently bought the Sapphire Radeon RX580...
@Julien-Sombre With my latest studio build, I do not need the Hum destroyer anymore. Do you use symmetric/balanced cables for your studio monitors as recommended/usual?
Thanks to @Anachronaut I was finally able to update my Clover from a very old version (r4458) to the latest version (r5119). The system now boots much faster and also runs a bit faster in general. For all of you who are not sure how to update from a v2.4 to v2.5 Clover version, just read his...
That post is pure gold! Thank you a lot! I was on an extremely old version (r4458) since 2018, and after previously failed update attempts in the past, I was scared to update Clover at all. Today I just did it by following your instructions, and I am so happy that everything runs without...
@custard-cake , @jiffyslot , @jeam25 - A quick side note: I do not face any "CPU overload" errors anymore with the latest Pro Tools version 2020.03  Let's hope they will let it as is ... stable for the moment.
No, I do not use any boot arguments. The only additional configurations I did are mentioned in my initial post. As you may have noticed, I am using a iMac 18,1 spec.
Of course I have (see "Other.zip"). The build is still my current one running in the music studio. I am running the latest Kext versions as follows:
I recommend you to also check if you have those kexts at two locations (and maybe different versions) that may cause issues:
Location 1...
I tested it, and I could not recognise the improvement of the performance when testing it with Cinebech & Intel Power Gadget. The overall test score slightly decreased as well as the Utilisation (%) and the Frequency (GHz) by using Offset of 0.075.
Yes, I use a lot of UAD as well, and the AAE...
Hi @NorthAmTransAm. First of all: Great user guide! I am thinking about modernising my pro audio build with a new graphics card and a cleaner SMBIOS/Drivers/KEXT setup as yours after finishing my current production projects.
The part of "undervolting" the CPU immediately caught my intention...
Indeed! The long-awaited PT update that was delayed several times is just a bad joke for the Pro user community again. I am still facing the same darn AAE issues, and there is no recognizable benefit by running the "updated" version. I am not sure if updating to Mojave helps, but that would mean...
Do you still face that issue? Did you try to insert a hum destroyer between your audio interface and your speakers? (see "Important Notes": https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/music-studio-build-i-core-i7-4790-ga-z87x-ud5h-geforce-gtx760.140699/)
Hi, @custard-cake. I do not know how skilled you are with PT and all related topics, and if you tried to fix this problem by checking out all possible options yet. All I can say is that ProTools - especially the latest version 2018.12 - makes a lot of trouble again regarding those in the PT...
