    15 years I've been waiting to mod a G5

Got a bit of an update, I have been able to snag a reference 6900XT, and after using it for a couple months, have realized that the original PCIE area just doesn't have enough fresh intake with just one fan in the front. My ideas are to either make an adapter to hold 2x 90mm fans that sits...

Thanks, and yeah I'm pretty sure it was your post. I'll get some a little later this spring. Right now getting good pics of the back is a bit difficult.

HOLY S***!!!! $30 for a single can of Off-The-Shelf spray paint?!?! I would be willing to bet that since the PF stuff is manufactured in the US there are probably local companies that brand it under their name for distribution. just would take some hunting around for it.

Some more pics, cus it looks great on my desk... oh yeah, I had to make a scoop out of the original CPU cooler funnel to direct air from the GPU section intake fan to the bottom of the GPU. Now when I'm mining my 2080 PEAKS at 68 deg C.... usually hovering around 65-66.

Its really affordable I think its about $4-7CAD per can. I used "maybe" 1\4 of the can. I had already used it for 4 brake calipers last year and it still feels about half full. Not sure where you could find it. Maybe Harbor Freight? Here are some pics. Obviously it will be labeled differently...

    15 years I've been waiting to mod a G5

Well I meant to publish that last post a few days ago.... Look a squirrel... Last night and today I decided to snag the USB 3.0 ports from a spare CoolerMaster case I've got here that I'm turning into a test-bed or maybe a mining rig.. either way, having front USB ports on that is less...

Time for another Update!! we had a couple more warm days so I was able to heat up the garage to be able to paint more parts. I am rally liking the finish of this high temp paint. Then I finally broke down and just bought a set of M.2 screws since ASUS has decided that screws aren't important...

    15 years I've been waiting to mod a G5

Just a small update. For those of us that live in Canada, the silver hi-temp Powerfist spray paint from Princess Auto is an almost EXACT match to the interior steel parts, and the PCI slot covers. I painted a few parts on a halfway warm day, and reinstalled the back-plane, and MoBo Tray. I...

Yeah, I'm no stranger to rivets. I want to be able to disassemble it later if need be without drilling out rivets. And I'm making it kind of a personal challenge to only use fasteners that came out of the Power Mac in the first place.

Ugh... I feel like an idiot. lol I just figured out what screws I'm going to use for my back panel... thanks to this thread: https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/another-g5-case-mod-with-some-useful-resources.71738/ I'm didn't Realize that those weird cap screws were a screw and a spacer...

    15 years I've been waiting to mod a G5

Well things have been at a stand-still for the last week. I'm waiting for ASUS to send me new M.2 screws since they didn't send any back with the new MOBO on an RMA. I'm deciding whether to tear it all down to paint it in my basement, or wait till spring to do it out in the garage. Haven't even...

    15 years I've been waiting to mod a G5

Thanks, its been a great "creative outlet," and I really appreciate having somewhere that I can share with others. Today and yesterday I solved, for the time being anyway, the challenge of where to put the SSDs & HDD. I also made a cover plate to hide the attic. Also I'm not sure why some of...

    15 years I've been waiting to mod a G5

I have been a VERY LONG-TIME lurker around here, but I finally managed to get my hands on a G5 to mod. The very first time I ever saw the beauty that is the cheese grater, I was in love. No chassis has stood the test of time in the looks department to me as this has. Found, discarded by a pile a...
