Hey MrNoodle,
Are you having any graphic glitches with your setup? I have the same setup as you. I used to have the AMD 6870 card and little artifacts were popping up in videos. For example: I'd have a perfectly good file on a hard drive and I'd copy it on to my hackintosh and then playing it...
Doing a clean install won't make any difference at all. I've done about 3 clean install of LION (not because of the fan) and it hasn't fixed it. Surely there must be a way to control the gpu fan speed. Let me know if you find a fix or anything.
:)
Re: Same motherboard, same software = grey screen
Have you tried typing in GraphicsEnabler=No or Yes?
I have pretty similar specs to you except I have the XFX HD6870 2GB Graphics Card and was having the same problem.
How does the fan on your graphics card run? I just received my and it works OOB but the fan runs at high speed all the time! Such a great card and I also want to thank you for posting this. I bought this graphics card because you said it works OOB and kicks butt! Which it does!
Awesome! This is good to know. I just purchased this card 5 minutes ago so I can't wait for it to arrive. Will post back here once installed and up and running! :)
I have a very similar setup to you...but I don't have a graphics card. Do you recommend the Graphics Card you purchased? Did it work OOB or did you have to edit kexts etc? Also, just double checking that this is the same as what you have?

Not sure if you've got your answer yet but I can assure you the HD 3000 Graphics do work, quite well actually. I have the GA Z68x UD3H-B3 MOBO with Intel i7 2600k and am using the DVI port on the MOBO. When I first installed SL, the resolution was stuck at 768 X 480 or whatever it is, I couldn't...
the apple logo and spinning thing disappears after about 20 seconds of it and then I wait a couple of minutes and hole the power button but not until it turns off and the after a couple of seconds I hit the power button again and it shuts off, I then instantly hit the power button again and the...
I followed this exact guide and after I update to OS 10.6.8 and re-boot, it does what it's supposed to do, but after a while, the white/grey screen with the apple logo and little spinning thing under the logo disappears and leaves me with the white/grey screen. weird thing though, I leave in on...
