    i7 3930K LGA 2011 Processor

It didn't, and I didn't think it would. The motherboard seems to be fried for some reason, so Gigabyte's going to do an advanced replacement for me. Now for some more waiting... Grrrr...

    i7 3930K LGA 2011 Processor

I'm nearly 100% certain that Apple will update the Mac Pros with the SB-E Xeons when Intel finally releases them. They're not going to wait (further) for the Ivy Bridge chips.

    i7 3930K LGA 2011 Processor

Either it's too sensitive to the RAM I purchased, or the motherboard itself is DOA. But I can't get it to POST into the BIOS setup screen at all. It refuses to respond to keyboard input. I made the mistake of purchasing RAM that wasn't on Gigabyte's "verified" list, so that may be the...

    i7 3930K LGA 2011 Processor

Have you tried forcing it to cpus=12? Or cpus=6?

    i7 3930K LGA 2011 Processor

Shouldn't be 1 core, but 1 processor. You should still have all 6 real (12 virtual) cores available. As I understand it, the CPUS= flag tells OS X about the processor count, not the core count. There's a big difference. :) How can you tell you only have 1 core running?

    i7 3930K LGA 2011 Processor

According to my sources, that flag only tells OS X that it has one processor vs. one core. I'm still not sure why you needed it, other than perhaps OS X was hunting around for a second processor for some reason and causing the lag time in boot. My Gigabyte motherboard arrives today; everything...

    i7 3930K LGA 2011 Processor

Interesting. Did you try with a single video card? I'm planning to use my Mac version of the nVidia Quadro 4K, which I know works in Lion. So I'm not expecting video issues. The CPU flag has me concerned though...

    i7 3930K LGA 2011 Processor

Well that's not promising. Have you installed Lion on it, or is it still running Snow Leopard.

Apple Magic Mouse or Apple Magic Trackpad ?

IMHO, the Magic Mouse is an abomination to mice everywhere. An odd idea that got executed very... poorly. If given the choice between that and a Logitech gaming mouse with buttons galore, I'd opt for the latter. I use the Trackpad on both of my Mac Pros (work and home), along with the...

I'm part Polish, but never learned it. ;-) I'll be going through this same thing in a few more days when my parts arrive. I look forward to hear about whatever bumps you ran into.

    Most powerful Nvidia Graphics card?

FWIW, the more accurate way to say that is: it enables the Mercury Engine to use the CUDA processors on the card. The Mercury Engine is always running within the Adobe products. The difference is whether the MPE is hardware or software-only.

    Most powerful Nvidia Graphics card?

I went looking through the Premiere Pro installation on my Mac Pro. I found the text file in question. mrfreeze# pwd /Applications/Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5/Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5.app/Contents mrfreeze# cat cuda_supported_cards.txt GeForce GTX 285 GeForce GTX 470 GeForce GTX 570 GeForce GTX...

    Most powerful Nvidia Graphics card?

So again: the Windows version of Premiere Pro has a simple text file that lists all of the allowed nVidia cards (by chip number, not by specific manufacturer) that it will enable hardware acceleration with. I don't know if the Mac version has that same text file because I haven't looked. If it...

    Most powerful Nvidia Graphics card?

I edit in Premiere Pro quite a bit on my Mac Pro, and the Quadro 4K provides PPro with the required CUDA processors for hardware accelerated rendering. Premiere only recognizes 3 nVidia cards with CUDA processors: the old GTX285, the Quadro 4K, and the older Quadro 4800. On Windows, there's a...

    i7 3930K LGA 2011 Processor

I'll let everyone know how my build goes. I just pulled the trigger on the Gigabyte MoBo, the 3930K processor, 16G of RAM, and other associated hardware. I'm going to use SATA drives I already have as well as my PNY nVidia Quadro 4000 video card.
