Give us more information about your system, your installation method, and other peripherals you may have attached. If I had to guess, I would say graphics acceleration issues.

Re: computer panics every 1st boot That message is pretty benign. It would be more helpful to see the panic dump from the kernel log. See if you can dig that up or boot verbose (-v flag) and take a pic of the screen to post here. Without the panic dump, it's largely impossible to diagnose.

I too vote exFAT. NTFS is also an option if you setup your fstab to automount rw the ntfs volume. But, as my comrade mentioned, exFAT would be the simplest.
