Hi,
I've been trying to upgrade from 10.8 to Mavericks without luck. Whenever I enter the installer, the graphics looks garbled. I can use the mouse/keyboard just fine; so I actually consider using the keyboard and an additional computer to know how to press - but thought that I'd ask you guys...

You know how everyone tells you to repair permissions? Well, take their word for it. It found a lot of wonky permissions within AppleHDA.kext (why ship with those permissions, ultrabeast crew?). Didn't even have to reboot, heard the screenshot sound while.. taking...

Look at that. I've isolated the issue to the ALC892 driver. If I remove the AppleHDA.kext as well as HDAEnabler1.kext, everything boots as intended.
Anyone else experiencing similar sound issues (that is, not being able to boot with the alc driver in 10.8.3)?

...and I'm back. The reason even safe mode wouldn't work was because multibeast 5.2.1 somehow screwed up the FakeSMC.kext installation. I booted safe mode and extracted FakeSMC.kext from the multibeast installer (pkgutil --expand; gzip -d fakesmc.kext/payload.gz...
Asus P8Z77M-Pro and GTX670 here. Updated using combo update and the system hung at the lnx2mac driver. Booted into safe mode then tried reinstalling fakesmc, the alc892 hda drivers and the geforce drivers. Now I can't even boot into safe mode anymore. Bugger.

This also applies to just doing a chimera (1.11.1) install on two...
I get this too on a new install (ASUS P8H77-I). Tried two different usb sticks from 2 computers (and thereby 2 different ML downloads).

In case you didn't see this thread, we're probably bumping in to the same issues: http://www.tonymacx86.com/general-tuning/19968-asmedia-usb-3-anybody-had-any-joy-yet.html
I just asked some guy in the twitchtv chat, and here's the response. Might just be bait, but who am I to keep this to myself? :-) I doesn't seem entirely unrealistic.

You might have an issue with modular PSU's. All reviews I've seen on this chassis generally advise against it. "Not more than 160mm length and no modular stuff"
