So I was using a usb 3.0 drive and a 3.0 port. Initially as I stated, I got the OS booted several times and boy was it fast at creating the usb drive and installing macOS. But wow is the 2.0 drive SLOW!

Also of note, I will be taking possession of a gtx1070 strix edition card on the 11th. Wonder if this will fix my issues since I won't have to deal with the iGPU, or create and whole slew of new ones.
