Try on PCH slot disabling Fast Boot on BIOS. Run the commands as root user
You can check if thunderbolt.ko kernel module is loaded with:
lsmod | grep thunderbolt
and try to force loading:
modprobe thunderbolt
I created NixOS USB with Rufus, and the Asrock card was installed on Asus Z790 ProArt with onboard Thunderbolt disabled.
Because no Thunderbolt header on this board, I set Force_PWR1 jumper to position 1-2 (no more changes)
Check USB was properly created.
After flashing with Linux I tried to read back active region like @racermaster did, but it didn't work with Timeout error. I don't mind. Just reboot and the new FW was in place.
I also have Asrock Thunderbolt 4 AIC and I flashed FW with Linux
