Yes. No matter what video hardware you throw at macOS, Windows drivers will always be better optimized unless Apple specifically supports it via its Metal API (which does not include nVidia hardware).

Which version of MacOS? I recently switched from a GTX960 to a RX580. All I had to do was uninstall nVidia drivers and swap cards. No additional drivers or kexts needed in High Sierra - works out of the box. This has been the case since eGPU support was added to 10.13.4
