Are there special requirements for the restore method? Does the template drive need to be the same kind of drive (ssd) as the target? And would that template itself need to be on a first partition? If the template was a copy of macOS/OS X installed with a real Mac (vs using an install USB) will...

So how do I clone? So installing from a real Mac would let me (on external HDD) install on a partition that's not first? but not with the install usb...?

So I need to delete windows, repartition, install macos, and then install windows on the second partition to make that work... No way to preserve existing Windows installation? Or how would I do the 'cloning' method?

yeah I know the difference... I was trying to have the macOS partition come after the existing Windows partition.

So I had, before installing, formatted the partition in Windows as exFAT. Then I used the Disk Utility in the installer and formatted again as OS X Journaled. Are you saying that formatting didn't work? Also in the past I had used a real Mac and installed onto a (different) external hard drive...

So macOS won't boot unless it's on the first partition? I tried to boot anyways with clover (via install usb drive), it seems I'm stuck with the apple logo even though the load bar has gone all the way. Does that mean I have format the entire drive to install?

actually, I was unable to install... "macOS could not be installed on your computer The bless tool was unable to set the current boot disk. Quit the installer and try again."

Ok thanks, all this made the installer finally boot. My question now is what I need to do post installation to make the system bootable? Presumably I add the kexts and stuff I did to make the installer boot? with multibeast?

so do I just uncheck all the options there? Edit: So I tried unchecking (selecting) both, checking one, checking the other one, they all gave me the boot error.

so how do I do that...?

Okay, so I added config_HD520_530_540.plist to EFI/CLOVER. I also have, in EFI/CLOVER/kexts/Other, FakeSMC.kext, GenericUSBXHCI.kext, IntelGraphicsFixup.kext, Lilu.kext, and VoodooPS2Controller.kext. However, when I try to boot the 10.12 installer, I get a kernel panic.

I don't know... I need kexts and config.plist changes to boot the installer? I'm not good at configuring this plist file (beginner!) which is why I'm asking... If Sierra won;t work, I'll try El capitan instead, but hopefully I can configure it.
