Thinking on swapping out my P8P67 Deluxe for a gigabyte board (fried really wants my deluxe, and I can't for life of me get sleep on it).

This a silly idea? I figure gigabyte would probably have more consistent solid support of OSX community going forward.

But if I went gigabyte it'd be the UD7 in either P67 or Z68, any suggestions as to which? I can't find much on either (I'm fine with being a trailblazer, still planning on supporting my deluxe guide!). Definitely need SATA III support, sleep and USB3.

Reason I didn't go Gigabyte last week was overclocking support (that 32x max multiplier). I really would like not having NullCPUpowermanagent, and only overclocking by the turbo...

So anyone have any ideas?

Here's a little tidbit of info that might help with your decision.

High-end Gigabyte z68 boards (UD5 and above) do not support Virtu. That means they don't support Quick Sync, which I'm assuming will be used in iLife and Final Cut Pro maybe in the future. They also do not have video outs, which is less important if you have a dedicated card anyway. It's basically the P67 board + SSD Caching.

Here's my thread about my search for the motherboard to buy.

Virtu isn't tied to quicksync. Or so it seems from intels site, the z68 chipset actually support sit (and is what is in the new iMac's). Might be something to think about though, never heard of it before. With the video work I do might be the right thing! Thanks!

You wouldn't happen to know anything about the UD7 board at all? I've only found a bit here...

z68 not info or works... :(

P67, dsdt online
GA-P67A-UD7-B3 :)

works yes! i like mb

I might have to swap then. You know of any way to make sure that USB3 support? Might still give it a shot though regardless...

AH so it's shafted by the 2 VLI chips. Lovely. So basicaly you can't go for a performance board and eat your USB3 too!?!? Bah! I want a nice overclocking board! USB3! and Sleep/PWM!

P.S.
Unrelated but I'm glad I don't have to deal with Phoenix summers anymore ;) I'm up in Prescott right now!

Since the DSDT for the B3 version of the UD7 is out sleep and powermanagement seem to be no issue anymore.
I used to have the old UD7 which I could not get beyond 10.6.6 without troubles.
But fortunately I could just change it against a Z68 which I'm starting to install with today. (I have to change my signature...) From yesterdays initial testings (out of the P67's 10.6.6 installation) I can just confirm that the USB ports are working. I don't have any USB 3 hardware though.
I just sticked a stick into any port an checked what system profiler showed.
It was always within a high speed hub, never in super speed, but two of those hubs are listed.
I hope to be able to give more info once I've got the install done.
Would be easier if already a DSDT was available...

I really liked the dry hot desert when I did my initial training at Goodyear.

Say Heading: You fly for Lufthansa then? I know they have the big training operation out there. Also know some cool changes coming to the a320's ;) They throw a wicked octoberfest too...

If you don't mind keeping me posted on your Z68 build, if you get sleep working I'm sold and I'll buy it ASAP lol. I've always gauged sleep ability as synonymous with a solid hackintosh build... Though I might just go P67 since it already seems solid, but the USB3 issue really, really, bugs me too. Stupid VLI. Not sure if I'll order today or Monday for the board...
