Hi everyone,

I'm having an issue with a friend's laptop.

The specs are as follows:

Intel Core i7-4700MQ
Motherboard: W230ST
16 GB DDR3
Intel HD 4600 integrated
Nvidia GTX 765M dedicated

As far as I understand, we'll be unable to to use Nvidia card, this is fine, he's okay with using integrated graphics instead.

I used the typical UniBeast method to create an installer USB. I have not edited it further, it has all the default kexts/boot flags.

When using verbose boot, it is clear the installer will never fully load. Instead, it will hang on
"[IOBluetoothHCIController][start] -- completed"

From what I've read, this suggests that the issue is not related to Bluetooth, but in fact the graphics card. Apparently it is able to load the installer, but freezes when trying to use the graphics card to display the install screen.

I have tried nearly every combination of boot flags, PCIRootUID, npci, -v, -f, -x, GraphicsEnabler (Yes and No), IntelAzulFB=1-15, and several others.

Safe mode boot does not work (hangs in the same spot). Single user mode will work, allowing me to manipulate folders and move kexts around. Based on others' suggestions, I have removed all AppleIntelHD* and AppleIntelF* kexts.

I've read countless forum posts from people with a similar issue, unfortunately to no avail. It appears as if most people are able to boot into safe mode, which I am not.

I'm effectively at my wits end, I'm no newbie to hackintosh but this problem has me stumped.

If anyone has any ideas as to what I could be missing, I would greatly appreciate any help.

Thanks very much!

Joe

Install Chameleon to the USB. Then use:
IntelAzulFB=12 GraphicsEnabler=Y dart=0 -f UseKernelCache=N -v

Also, don't forget to remove the nvidia kexts (NVDA*, Geforce*).

Hi Rehabman,

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, your suggestion didn't seem to work. I have tried both a Mountain Lion and Mavericks installer, both hang right before loading graphics. In both cases I've patched the kernel as per your other thread.

Do you have any other ideas? Also, should I leave the Intel kexts in S/L/E or should I delete them?

Did you install Chameleon?

Did you install Chameleon?

I have Chimera from the Unibeast installer on it right now, is that what you mean? Or should I find a Chameleon installer and use that?

Read post #2 carefully -- every word is important. You should install Chameleon to the USB then use the flags I provide.

Chameleon installer: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/231075-chameleon-22svn-official-pkg-installer-binaries/

Note: It is a bad idea to remove the Intel kexts. You'll need them...

Ah, of course, forgive my ignorance.

At any rate, I've made quite a bit of progress - Mavericks is installed.

Unfortunately, it's presently only bootable from the Chameleon installed on the USB. I've installed Chameleon onto the HDD, but unfortunately, it hangs on the graphics as it did before.

What do you suggest?

Thanks again for the help, I really appreciate it.

I've also patched the kernel on the HDD, so that shouldn't be the issue.

Install Chameleon to HDD.

For power management and initial setup after a fresh install, see: http://www.tonymacx86.com/mavericks...nagement-sandy-bridge-ivy-bridge-laptops.html

Haswell is similar to Ivy, except you should use a Haswell-appropriate smbios and there is no need to patch AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext.

Remove AMD kexts if present (ATI*, AMD*). Rebuild cache (use DPCIManager).

Boot with:
IntelAzulFB=12 GraphicsEnabler=Y dart=0 -v

If you don't want to type the flags each time, add them to /Extra/org.chameleon.Boot.plist.

Also don't forget to make your profile accurate...

Please provide complete details in your profile.

System: manufacturer/model
CPU: detailed CPU model + motherboard chipset
Graphics: all graphics devices + laptop internal screen resolution

For example, typical Ivy laptop:
System: HP ProBook 4540s
CPU: i5-3320m/HM76
Graphics: HD4000, 1366x768

Use CPU-Z on Windows to find CPU (Core iX-xxx) and motherboard chipset (HMxx). For a laptop, these details are important and affect critical installation procedures.

Thanks for the post and the suggestions, I really do appreciate it.

I've followed the instructions but unfortunately, the system still refuses to boot. I've updated the Boot.plist as per your instructions, but the only way I can get it to boot is by using -x for safe mode.

Earlier, when I could get it to boot, there were graphical issues (blocks of staticy colours on the top half of the display). These issues are not present in safe mode, leaving me to believe a graphics kext is to blame?

Let me know if you have any other suggestions.
