Hi,

I installed OSX 10.9.4 (before ran OSX 10.6.8 which runs very fine and fast) on my old Vaio F11 notebook which nVidia GT330m (only HDMI) and Core i7 q720 1,6 - 2,8ghz....

The GUI is very sluggish, QuartzExtreme is enabled, nvidia driver is loading (watching on external HDMI). Also mouse movement very often lags. Windows and desktop animations lag. This was quite ok in OSX 10.6.8.

Here are my question?

- What could be the cause for this? Could it be a too low / bad Core i7 power management / steppings?

- Is my CPU capable of the new kernel micro power management instead AppleIntelCPUPM? How can I see, what mode is currently activated?

- I tried to generate proper ssdt states for my cpu using ssdtPRGen.sh. But the script does not recognize my cpu type... How can I generate on my cpu?

- Should I enable P-states and C-states?

- Or is it caused by a too aggressive gpu power management? Can I patch AppleGraphicsPM for faster timings? I use MacBookPro6,2 as smbios, since it has exactly the same GPU

Attached the current DSDT, SSDT and ioreg.

I also already "tuned" the Pstates in APGM for my nvidia/macbookpro6,2, but it's still lagging. Sometimes it stops for a quarter second. BTW. the primary partition resides on a USB3 hard drive. Could the usb controller block the graphics card or cpu?

Please help! Thanks!

The stuttering is also visible in the cursor repeat rate that completely varies over time. I also removed usb3 ethernet adapter, no change. Could this be a genericusbxhci problem?

Here is a kextstat. Something missing there?

Do you have GenerateCStates=Y GeneratePStates=Y DropSSDT=Y

- Is my CPU capable of the new kernel micro power management instead AppleIntelCPUPM? How can I see, what mode is currently activated?

I assume you're referring to XCPM. XCPM is default for Haswell, and optional with -xcpm with Ivy. But your CPU is pre-Sandy, so no.

- I tried to generate proper ssdt states for my cpu using ssdtPRGen.sh. But the script does not recognize my cpu type... How can I generate on my cpu?

GenerateCStates=Y GeneratePStates=Y

- Or is it caused by a too aggressive gpu power management? Can I patch AppleGraphicsPM for faster timings? I use MacBookPro6,2 as smbios, since it has exactly the same GPU

Not familiar with discrete graphics AGPM. Can't help you there...

Rehab man thanks but why also the text cursor will vary in repeat speed and also the mouse will freeze for some ms? Isn't this more some kind of Irq blocking or a extreme timing problem?

Thanks for the info regrading Xcpm, I already tried genps and gencs without Xcpm, but dropping Orem ssdt seems not to work: I select "drop all oem ssdt" or the two tables ssdt and ssdt1 for dropping. After loading up the dsdt editor still can get original ssdt and ssdt1 from bios. As far as I remember this is not possible after dropping normally.

If you're using Clover (maybe? sounds like it...), GeneratePStates/GenerateCStates are not valid, everything is done via config.plist.

Yes I use Clover and clover configurator.... Maybe this is the problem? I boot my working OSX 10.6.8 using a 2012 version of Chameleon and it works. I would also use Chameleon for 10.9.4, but never Chameleons prevent my OSX10.6.8 from booting (stuck after "waiting for dmos"), something nvidia related...

I now disabled xcpm and enabled pstates/cstates. I also set the bus frequency to 1330000, but no change at all. Still mouse lags, the timer speed varies a lot, cursor is jumping or swallows letters...

Strange issue... Do I need to set bus frequency?

I conclude it doesn't seem to be the graphics nor the cpu pm. It's another problem.

Could this be a SATA problem that disk access blocks DMAs or something? I use an external SATA drive connected with eSATA.

Maybe you should post your config.plist. Are you using Clover EFI (legacy) or Clover UEFI?

Clover EFI... Hereis the config.plist, please do not care about ATI strings since they are not injected (comes from desktop config):

Do you need the busratio=12? Do you use that on your SL config or something? Do you need BusSpeedkHz=133350? Best to let these things default unless you're certain you need them and are certain they are correct. Same goes for Latency setting.

What about ForceHPET? Needed?

Any options you're not using, you should remove (eg. ATI related stuff).

That said, I don't know too much about your hardware (it is old). Could be a graphics issue too.. . Have you tried the nvidia web drivers?

No, didn't try that, will they work with a GT330M? btw. I think I also installed some old web nvidia drivers in OSX10.6.8....

force hpet etc was just for testing purposes and did not change anything.
