Hi guys, I have a 4530s (XU015UT), and I've noticed that my Bios is pretty old: version F09. I am runnning 10.8.2 for a few months, no problems so far. So, I'd like to know if bios update is worth, if it does any significant improvements at all.

The newest version for my model is F30, am I right? In this case, what should I do to update it? I know how is the bios update process itself. I mean, what should I do about the OSX? I know that there is some DSDT adjustments to do to update the Bios, I would appreciate if you guys could give me a hand about this.

Thanks.

Newest is F40. Instructions/software for updating is on HP's site. You need Windows to perform the update. Either on the laptop directly or on another machine to create a bootable USB stick (USB stick should be on the small/old side of things).

After you update BIOS, you should always re-patch your DSDT as the raw one can change with BIOS update...

The new ProBook Installer v6.1 has an automatic DSDT patcher...

Thanks RehabMan! I will try it.

One more thing, do you recommend patching the DSDT manually, or the ProBook Installer v6.1 is fine?

ProBook Installer v6.1b5 is very new, especially the DSDT patching. I really just finished coding the patching engine (patchmatic) a few days ago. But by all accounts so far, it is working, so you should try it.

So, I updated my Bios to the F40 version and patched a fresh DSDT with the Probook Installer v6.1b5. Everything is running fine except for a problem: my HDMI doesn't work anymore in OS X.

When I plug an external display, my screen goes blue and the system become extremely laggy with a lot of graphical glitches. Sometimes it goes back to normal if I disconnect the HDMI cable, and sometimes it just freezes and I have to turn off the laptop.

I was using an external display plugged to my HDMI just fine before the Bios update, and it still works in Windows 7.

What happened with the OS X? How can I fix it?

Thanks.

HDMI working fine here to Dell U2410 24" 1080p monitor. I tried with both patched AppleIntelSNBGraphicsFB.kext in PBI v6.1b6 and with vanilla AppleIntelSNBGraphicsFB.kext. Do you have same result if you boot with the display attached? Have you tried different monitors?

Well, that is weird. After a few tries, I noticed that sometimes the HDMI works, and sometimes it doesn't. Same results while booting plugged. When it works is perfect, it works exactly as before the update, but when it doesn't, I have to reboot and try again.

I tried updating the OS X to 10.8.3 and installing the new Kexts from ProBookInstaller v6.1b6, same problem.

I have another 4530s, exactly like mine (XU015UT). I did the Bios update, 10.8.3 update, and new Kexts from PBI v6.1b6. The same problem occurred, the HDMI was fine before the update too.

Do you have any ideas? I don't like to think that I'm going to have to reboot my laptop hundred of times, every time I want to use the HDMI. =(

Thanks again!

Anybody? Please, I really need help with this...

I don't get the impression that you've tried vanilla AppleIntelSNBGraphicsFB.kext yet?? At least you haven't mentioned you tried and experienced the same problem.

Unless you need VGA for some reason (or HDMI-audio), there is no reason to run patched AppleIntelSNBGraphicsFB.kext.

Well, unfortunately I need both, HDMI-audio for my TV and VGA for some meetings. But I'll try it anyway. Where can I find the vanilla Kext? It doesn't seems that I have any backup here.

If it works, what do I have to do to have the HDMI-audio and VGA working again?

Thanks!
