Hey guys,
Heres the requirements...
3 PCI slots
A solid blend of future proofing/stability/performance.

Heres the proposition

GIGABYTE GA-H67A-UD3H-B3 LGA 1155 Intel H67
Intel Core i7-2600K (can be changed to something less hefty if mobo cant OC anyways
G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600
Cooler Master Silent Pro Gold 850w
Western Digital Caviar Black WD1002FAEX 1TB 7200 RPM SATA 6.0Gb/s
EVGA GeForce GT 240 1GB

Grand total after shipping is a little under $1,000, but I can save a load buying a slower CPU, if I find that the mobo/cpu combination is useless. Do you guys foresee any issues?

Any advice or suggestions on different hardware would be SUPER appreciated. Thanks guys!

I don't see any problems with the build except that i don't know about the GT240 card, i had a 9800gt and when 10.6.5 came out i couldn't use it from dvi output to my hdmi monitors so i went to an ati 5770 and couldn't be happier. I'll probably leave the hack scene and get a real mac used Imac or Mac Pro.

Hmmm, I got the gt240 working out the box for my buddies 10.6.6 hack. Worked like a charm. 285 would be the bes bet, thats what they put in mac pros.

Any of you guys know what the difference is between p67 and h67?

definitely get the p67, not the h67. h67 can not overclock, and you dont need the onboard video card when you are using a PCI one anyways.

Im using a gt240 and i cant get my dvi to work, Not sure about the hdmi port. Stuck on vga

Well .. given the usually picky behaviour of Pro Tools I'd never build a sandy bridge hackintosh before tonymacx86 puts out a recommended build and apple officialy releases and OSX update.. then again someone has to be the first to test those new mobos with stuff like PT

good luck :D !

There are quiet a few version of the GT 240. I think the one we got was the 1gb EVGA GT 240.

So about the H67/P67 thing. Is it worth getting the 2600k if I cant even overclock? It looks like the P67 only has 2 PCI slots... I can only work with motherboard that have 3. It is the first requirement. Those cards are worth almost 2k a piece, would be a shame to only use 2 of them. So far the build is about $1200 (with a rack mount case). An external silent PCIe to 7 PCIx slot chassis (the one supported by ProTools) is $3k. Trying to keep costs down.

My only other 3 PCI slot option is an 1156 board... not nearly as cool and almost the same price. So I'm expecting about a week of fussing with this thing to get it stable and working with PT9. Well worth the performance upgrade.

SO! Again, my questions are should I get a none K series CPU since I can't overclock on an H67 anyways? and do you guys know of any other 1366 or 1155 options with 3 PCI slots?

Thanks guys!

Looks like the ASRock P67 EXTREME6 has 3 slots.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... -_-Product

"3 x PCI Express 2.0 x16 slots (PCIE2/PCIE4: single at x16 or dual at x8/x8 mode; PCIE5: x4 mode)"

I don't know if I understand all these specs very well, so I hope I'm not misleading anyone....

He needs PCI slots not PCIe. I'm in the same boat using a Pro Tools HD3 Accel on a Gigabyte GA-P55-UD3L (Bios F7) and i7 860 @ 4.0GHz. All is fine. Looking into future P67/H67 solutions as well. The 3 PCI slots I saw was on Gigabyte site: GA-P65A-UD3 (rev. 1.0), GA-H67A-USB3-B3 (rev. 1.0), GA-H67A-UD3H-B3 (rev. 1.1). This one actually has 4 PCI slots - GA-PA65-UD3-B3 (rev. 1.0).

Dude... YOU ARE THE MAN...

Only I need to figure out the difference between H76 B65 and all of that jazz. Any ideas?
