[Updated] Stork's Thunderbolt Build: i5-3570K | GA-Z77X-UP5-TH | GTX 650 Ti | Mountain Lion

My wireless Apple keyboard does not allow me to enter in the BIOS (using Targus BT USB dongle). I have to get into the BIOS with either a USB wired keyboard or (main method) the Logitech K750 Solar Mac keyboard. The Logitech is immediately recognized by the BIOS (well designed, me thinks). Sometimes, the BT becomes active after I'm in the BIOS, but it's not dependable.
I have the same issue with an Apple USB bluetooth adapter that I made (see post #273). Works great in a DELL 530 in the BIOS but not well with GA-Z77X-UP5-TH. I have same symptoms as you.

It would interesting to find out if the gigabyte BT adapter works with their own BIOS. I don't have windows to enable it, hence my question to Bimmer. Also, it seems strange that one needs Windows to enable it.

If you could provide us with a bit more detail on the steps/procedures you followed when trying to get this to work, it would be easier to help you troubleshoot :)

i plugged the thunderbolt cable into the bottom (port 2) thunderbolt port, the other end into the macbook pro. i restarted the macbook pro in thunderbolt target mode by pressing the T key... then i booted the hack.... and it wouldn't recognize the macbook pro or mount it on the desktop.

also, does anybody know if it's possible to use apple thunderbolt display and thunderbolt external hard drives at the same time??

I'm assuming from your description that you're trying to connect via a Thunderbolt to Thunderbolt connections. While I haven't tried the Target mode yet (I'm away from my system), I recommend getting a Thunderbolt to Firewire 800 adapter and a FW800 cable. Connect the Thunderbolt to FW800 adapter to the hack and the FW800 to the MBP. Then, try the Target mode. IIRC, the MBP's Target mode only works over FW.

I think part of the problem is your process. Try this:
  1. With both computers off, connect your Hack with your TB-equipped MBP via the TB cable.
  2. Power on your MBP and boot as normal.
  3. Boot up your Hack.
  4. Now, restart your MBP - after the reboot "chime," press/hold the "T" key to boot MBP in Target Mode.

I'm in San Jose right now for work, but will be back to Dallas later tonight. Over the weekend, I'll also see if I can get this to work using the instructions I provided above.

It works with a factory Mac.

Don't forget - this thread is to ask questions about hardware/software configuration for Stork's Golden build, as well as posing questions if you choose to vary slightly from the parts build.

Have you tried to post your issue yet in the proper forum ("The Build" - or probably better yet "Post Installation > Graphics" for your graphics issues. Going forward, if you're having problems with your build, the quickest resolution (and the proper process) is to start a topic in the support forums. :)

Having said all that, I can tell you a couple things right away: 1) if you are trying to install ML on a drive larger than 1TB, this is not supported (this issue is well-documented in the forum). Which leads me to 2) the "garbled video" after reboot as illustrated by your 2nd picture is also a very well-documented issue. A simple search for "scrambled video" or variations on that theme would yield an answer to what is causing that. I know this because I had the exact same issue & resolved it by a simple search of the forum.

To resolve the scrambled video, you must select the 1080p option in MultiBeast. :)

I am trying to build this machine using the very same board (ga-z77x-up5-th) any direction or guidance?
