Please someone with a success install take some minutes to write a small guide of how to get mountain lion working on our y580, we are waiting anxiously!!!

By the way, hello to this great community.

Guide:
Pre installation:
First of all make a Unibeast USB by following this guide: (Till step 3! Only step 1 and 2!!)
http://www.tonymacx86.com/61-unibeast-install-os-x-mountain-lion-any-supported-intel-based-pc.html

For the ones who can't access a Mac computer follow this guide:
http://www.tonymacx86.com/340-snow-leopard-mountain-lion-ivy-bridge-installation-video-guide.html
but don't follow the last step (Multibeast), use our kexts, DSDT.aml and Chameleon instead.
Even if you follow the other guide make sure you have the right bios settings as seen below. If you don't get ethernet in Snow Leopard, try our ethernet kext (in the file below).

Let's get started!
Make a backup of all your important files because we are going to format your hard drive/ disk.

If you only want to use Mac it can be a smart thing to unlock your BIOS first on Windows to get wifi working for Mac.
To get wifi working dig up in this thread. You need to install a new wireless card, and an unlocked bios (http://forum.techinferno.com/lenovo-ibm/2260-lenovo-y580-y480-unlocked-bios-versions.html look for the current 2.0X version).
Just search around the internet for a good working wireless card for Mac.

Go to your bios (F2 on startup) and change at Configuration:
Sata controller mode = AHCI
Graphic device = UMA Graphic
And at Boot:
UEFI boot = disabled
Now save it! (F10)

Place your USB in the USB port directly under the charger input! Only this USB works with a new installation. (Later we make other USB ports working in Mountain Lion by installing kexts)
Then press F12 on startup and boot the USB
Select the USB (don't press enter yet!) and type: GraphicsEnabler=No –v
(Note: It's not needed to use a boot command but it's more stabler if you use it.)
And then press enter!

Select your language and go in the top menu bar to Utilities, and open Disk Utility:
Highlight your target hard drive for the Mountain Lion installation in left column.
Click Partition tab
Click Current and choose 1 Partition or choose 2 if you want to dual boot with Windows or even 3 with Windows & Linux on the same hard drive/disk!
Click Options...
Choose GUID Partition Method
(If you have chosen more partitions change the sizes but notice that Linux need a swaparea with 8192MB that you loose on your Linux partition later)
Under Name (partition 1): type MAC (You can rename it later)
Under Format (partition 1): choose Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
Dual boot : Under Name (partition 2 with Windows too): type WINDOWS
Under Format (partition 2): choose FAT
Triple boot (with Linux too): Under Format (partition 3): Free space
Click Apply then Partition
Close Disk Utility

You have the right partitions now! If you want dualboot on the same hard drive/ disk you need to install Windows first. In the Windows installation choose for advanced install and select the Windows partition and format the Windows partition so you are ready to install Windows.

If you have 3 partitions and want to have Linux on the same hard drive, install Mac FIRST! Using the instructions below, then install Windows using the instructions above! The Linux instructions goes further below the Mac instructions! Keep in mind that you can always boot into any partition with the Mac installation USB.

The installation

After that you can install Mountain Lion now. (If you haven't already booted from the USB) install Mountain Lion on the right partition.
Then when the installation is done, boot again from the USB and choose now the Mac Mountain Lion partition.

After installation
First allow all programs:
Go to system preferences
Choose Security
Click on the lock in the bottom left corner.
And choose in the Allow applications downloaded from section:
Anywhere

Now we need to install the kexts. Install the kexts with Kext Utility (just drag and drop the kexts) and
install Chameleon (make sure you set the Chameleon install location to the Mac partition and not your USB!)

Then open the Finder and in the menubar click on 'Go' and then choose 'Computer'. Go to your Mac Drive and make
a new folder called Extra in the root of your Mac drive.
Then place the files from the 'Files for /Extra folder' (dsdt.aml, org.chameleon.boot.plist and the smbios.plist) in the just made /Extra folder.
See file attached below.

If you have the 1366 x 768 version, just change the resolution in org.chameleon.boot.plist (edit it with text editor)!

Restart your system and you’re done now!
The only remaining thing is to disable the annoying Bluetooth Setup Assistent on startup:
Open up System preferences
Choose Bluetooth
Click Advanced at the bottom right corner.
Uncheck the first 2 boxes: open Bluetooth Setup Assistant at startup when no input device is present.

If you can't boot directly to Mountain Lion now, than boot to Mountain Lion by the USB. Make sure you have installed the essential kexts and you have placed the /Extra files in your /Extra folder.

You can change the BIOS settings back to normal! BUT DON'T CHANGE SATA CONTROLLER MODE!

To get wifi working dig up in this thread. You need to install a new wireless card, and an unlocked bios (http://forum.techinferno.com/lenovo-ibm/2260-lenovo-y580-y480-unlocked-bios-versions.html look for the 2.0X version).

Usefull tips:

You have now a purple-blue menubar to fix this go to System preferences choose Displays and go to the color tab and choose the: General RGB profile.

You can easily remap the command and option keys by going to:
System preferences
Keyboard
Click on special keys (in the bottom right corner)
And change it to your wishes.

If you want to remap more keys like Fn keys than you have to edit your DSDT

Software updates

You can install all software updates but when you update Mountain Lion itself (to 10.8.3 for example) you need to install the kexts again. But look out because I got after an software update 384MB for Intel HD Graphics 4000 instead of 512MB. Some people say it's because only when Mac need more MB's for the Intel HD Graphics it still offers silently more MB's , so you have a longer battery time when it is not needed.
Chameleon updates
Just use Chameleon Wizard and choose the update option.
(Tip! Install also a cool theme. I recommend LoginToLion. It is really easy by going to the Theme tab in Chameleon Wizard.)

Doesn't work (now):
Nvidia GeForce GTX 660M
For some people sleep doesn't work when closing the lid.
USB3 devices works only at USB2 speed (all ports works).
Screen can only become more brighter after one time sleep.

Linux instructions on the same hard drive:
Boot into your Linux cd/usb and then at the allocate Drive Space screen, choose Something Else.
Now find your Free space partition where you want to install Linux on and click it. Now click Add..
Type: Logical
Partition size: 8192 MB (Yes it is our 8GB ram)
Location: End
Use as: swap area.
Now click OK

Now click the free space again, and click Add...
Type: Logical
Partition size: 2 MB
Location: End
Use as: biosgrub
Now click OK

Now click the free space again, and click Add...
Type: Logical
Partition size: The (default) maximum available
Location: End
Use as: Pick Ext4 if you work with huge files or need extra fast performance. Choose Ext3 if you want to access the linux file system from OSX (and possibly Windows with the right tools).
Mount Point: Choose forward slash /
Click OK.

Now choose device for boot loader installation (it can be in the same screen or in the last screen where it says 'Ready to Install': Choose the large linux partition that you just created (e.g. /dev/sda5).
Click install Now

Now boot into Linux with your Mac installation USB. There open the terminal and install gptsync:
(e.g. for Ubuntu): sudo apt-get install gptsync
Now in the Terminal enter: sudo gptsync /dev/sda
and press Y when prompted

Now you should see you can only boot in Windows, now we will fix that.
Open in Windows command prompt and type: diskpart
now type: list disk
note your right disk number (it should be the one where you installed all the operating systems)
now type: select disk 0 (where 0 is your disk number!)
now type: list partition
note the partition number where you installed Mac.
now type: select partition 2 (where 2 should be your Mac partition)
now type: active

Now when you reboot you get a black screen, boot again in your Mac installation USB, and boot into Mac. Now open Chameleon Wizard and install Chameleon with the most upper option, and click install.
... and you have a triple boot with only one hard drive!!!

Notes:
If anyone has better ideas/ things I am missing, I would like to hear it!

Edit 7 (15 August 2013): Added triple boot instructions
Edit 8 (16 August 2013): Updated triple boot instructions

Our Nvidia GeForce GTX 660M doesn't work because it has Optimus and it isn't supported by Apple. Only when it is officialy supported by Apple or someone hacks it, than will our Nvidia GeForce GTX 660M work.

Has anyone gotten HDMI video output to work?

Thanks Jessers for the guide! I think the best trackpad kext is definitely Rehabman's from this post:
http://www.tonymacx86.com/mountain-...oller-keyboard-trackpad-clickpad-support.html (attached below) You can also try the attached dsdt.aml. It has video, sound, brightness and sleep edits. Sleep with lid close works for me.
Thanks for the suggestion! I have updated the guide.
Only sleep doesn't work for me when I close the lid; even with your dsdt. Maybe it is because I have the i5 version (only the last one that was available in my country)

Edit: Strangely I have only 384MB for the Intel HD 4000 available. I had first the full 512MB and I have still 8GB RAM working.
I have found this: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3246#intel4000 does it means that if it need more than 384MB it will use 512MB?

Hello, You doing this after patching the Unibeast installation with Multibeast or whatelse?

Hello, You doing this after patching the Unibeast installation with Multibeast or whatelse?
TYVM
What do you mean exactly? It is not necessarily to use Multibeast, in fact we don't need it because we have all of the necessary kexts and Multibeast has only kexts we don't need. I have tested Multibeast earlier and nothing worked, so I found this thread. Just install Unibeast, install the kexts with Kext Utility or Kext Wizard, install Chameleon and place the DSDT etc. in the /Extra folder and you're ready to go. So Multibeast is not needed!

Thank you very much Jesser and Knutz for your help!!!! I see many people asking for advise in this forum but only a few saying thank you.

I´ll get my hands on installing ML as soon as I can..

Please everyone, keep posting your tips!!!

You don't use he patched version of applecpupowermanagement?
