The 660 Ti Thread: Questions and Answers Here!

Sorry, if this is slightly off-topic. Just built my hack last month and want to upgrade my 9800GT to a 660Ti or similar but it won't fit in the PCI2.0 x16 slot as I have all my PCIe slots filled. (UAD2 card, TP-Link (TL-WDN4800), and Syba SD-PEX30009 firewire).

Can I run it in the PCIe2.0 x8 slot? I've read the performance hit will be marginal.

There will be a performance hit, but yea you can run it in that 8x slot. Have you tried multiple ways to fit it in? Your best bet would be to get a board that is PCI 3.0, because PCI 3.0 8x is equivalent to PCI 2.0 16x. So if you get a PCI 3.0 board to go with your PCI 3.0 GPU, there won't be any performance hits

The PCIe 2.0 x16 is next to two PCIe x1 slots and the video card takes up two slots, so I'd lose one PCIe slot. It's too late for me to buy another mobo. I'm thinking to upgrade my graphics card and try it in the PCIe x8 card towards the bottom.

If there's nothing else you can do then go for it

I'm having an issue on my machine with dual monitors where intermittently the 2nd monitor won't come up. Sometimes restarting will cure this and bring both monitors up again, but if the computer has been unpowered for a couple of days it takes plugging and unplugging the card doing a reboot to get it recognized again.

This is pretty much exactly the same issue that's been mentioned in the 550ti thread here:

http://www.tonymacx86.com/mountain-...gtx-560-ti-dual-monitor-audio-problems-5.html

One of the other weird things that I'm seeing is that when I look up at the System Report in the About This Mac, and click on the PCI Cards section, it simply says "This computer doesn't contain any PCI cards..."

Anyone have similar issues? It's not a dealbreaker, but it is annoying and I would like to figure out a way to solve this issue once and for all. FYI I'm running OS X 10.8.2 on a Sabertooth X79 board. Everything else works very well and besides the dual monitor issue, the graphics card seems to be working just fine.

Same. I just deal with it. It's not a big deal for me because I only have a single monitor, but for right now I'm set

I do have that 'no pci cards' issue. With my 550ti iirc using an efi string in the chimera/chameleon boot.plist sorted that, but not tried that with the 660ti on account of it being 'graphics enabler = no'. dsdt edits would likely also fix that. But don't both those options work better with an iMac specified in SMBios.plist? Reluctant to change from that from MacPro4,1 at this point.

But my dual monitors come up fine – apart from the wake from sleep issues I get sometimes where neither of them come on, but a reboot fixes that, sounds a bit different from your issue?

Secondly, I downloaded Pixelmator and attempted to cause issues as discussed earlier in this thread. I could go to full screen with no pauses, apply effects, and generally never saw any errors.

Thanks for stopping by :)

I can confirm that with 10.8.2 and the latest Pixelmator from the app store ( Version 2.1.1 Cherry (20831) ) the stuttering and freezing are gone, full screen works fine. iirc the Pixelmator update notes even mentioned fixes for stuttering of effects etc.

So we can cross Pixelmator of the list of problem apps.

no matter what working drive or OS or even the unibeast thumb drive, during boot up i get the grey curtain "must power down" KP when I have my EVGA GeForce GTX 660 plugged in, onboard graphics works fine, but i get the curtain from the xMove installer, Unibeast installer drive, or any of the working drives I have, can I get any guidance?

GA-Z77-DS3H
i7-3770k
16GB Corsair 1333Mhz RAM
EVGA nVidia GeForce GTX 660 (brand new)

I've tried a lot of methods with no success, any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have a GA-Z77X-UP5 TH with an EVGA GTX 660 Ti and am having issues while using Safari (as well as Chrome and Firefox). I followed both of Alfa's guides and have been reading through this thread, as well as others, trying to find a solution.

Guides followed: http://goo.gl/I81lk and http://goo.gl/1wT6o
About This Mac: http://i.imgur.com/TdUuc.png

When using Safari, it will crash quite often. In every crash report for WebProcess it has GeForceGLDriver.bundle listed: http://pastebin.com/n03CsvFi
When using Chrome, individual tabs crash all the time. Firefox will completely crash as well, repeatedly.

I am wondering if anyone else has encountered this and, if so, is there a solution? From my reading, many 660 Ti cards are working wonderfully (I have no need for Final Cut). Is there a specific issue with the EVGA model, perhaps?

I am running 10.8.2. I am able to play World of Warcraft and Diablo III without any issues. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
