Hello Guys,

I have just installed Mountain Lion following this guide http://www.tonymacx86.com/mountain-...-gigabyte-z68x-ud3h-b3-eufi-5.html#post439744 and using the new EUFI bios on a Gigabyte Z68X-UD3H-B3 board.

I noticed a problem while coming out of sleep. It seems my ethernet card has a "cable unplugged" message next to it and cannot get an address. Doesn't happen every time but need to reboot to solve the issue.

I am not using the onboard ethernet and have disable it in the bios. My card is a generic marvel yukon which shows up as "Marvell Yukon Gigabit Adapter 88E8053 Singleport Copper SA:". No need for custom kext, and never happened in Snow Leopard.

Btw, the ethernet card is a Rosewill RC-401-EX.

Thoughts?

This happens with my GA-Z77X-UP5 TH. I've tried with both a Rosewill and Sonnect (which are identical cards). I was thinking it was an issue with the Z77 chipset but now i'm thinking it's a problem with the UEFI bios. Can you try downgrading your bios back to a non-UEFI version and seeing if you have the same problem?

Thanks for the suggestion. You are probably right that it might have something to do with the UEFI bios. It's a sporadic problem and doesn't seem to happen every time it comes out of sleep. I'm not sure if I want to go through the trouble of going back to a non-uefi bios and reinstalling. May just have to live with it.

Well i opened a support ticket with Gigabyte. Let's see what they come back with. If you do end up trying a non-UEFI bios, let me know your results so i can update the support ticket.

Any update on your ticket? Problem still persists for me.

Their response was to contact the card manufacturer. I've told them that this issue affects more than just my card but so far they haven't gotten an answer. You can always put the NIC in one of the x8 or x4 slots normally used for graphics cards, but this will cause you discrete graphics card to run at x8 instead of x16. I've confirmed the NIC wakes properly when using the PEGP slots. This may not be that big of a performance hit depending on which graphics card your using.

Thanks for the suggestion, I moved the nic to the second PEGP slot, and I'll see if I get better results.. The graphics card is now running at 8x, just as you said it would - not sure if I'll notice that difference.

I'm just curious as to why this issue is not a more widespread problem while using the uefi bios. I could be wrong, but I remember I had a similar issue with the onboard realtek nic - so it wasn't just isolated to the pci-express external nics. If that's the case though, I think it would be a bigger problem for most...

I have the same system board with the EUFI bios and a core I3. Prior to flashing the UEFI bios I had problems with teh onboard NIC and installed the same ethernet card as you. After installing the UEFI bios I noticed the same "cable unplugged" error on the PCIe NIC. I solved the problem by switching back to the onboard NIC and enabling it in the bios.

Now, the NIC will experience a very short connection problem after waking from sleep but it corrects itself within a few seconds.

Did the network card wake from sleep properly BEFORE you upgraded to the UEFI bios? If so, I think we can say that it's a problem with UEFI.

Yes. Prior to the UEFI bios the PCIe NIC had no problem that I could see waking from sleep.
