tried changing the 0 to a 1. recognized as 6870, but lagginess is back.

going to change back to 0 and 6XXX unless i find out another way to do it.

if it's recognized as 6XXX, does that mean i'm not getting the full power of the gpu?

Lamous, if you made a backup via Carbon I would recommend starting this whole process over.
Restore that backup, remake your unibeast drive, do not delete any kexts. Shutdown, remove card, install ML, shutdown, add card.
You should be good to go then

i now have 6870 recognition and no mouse lagginess.

here's how.

see anything weird there?

Almost the exact same as mine but you have ethernet built in where as I do not.
Does your internet work still?

Here is mine

yeah, my ethernet works.

my dvd player app does not. i get this message:

there was an initialization error

A valid DVD drive could not be found. [-70012]

i have two optical drives that are recognized. it recognizes discs in them, but when it tries to load the dvd player, i get that message.

is this related? know of a fix?

DVDplayer app by Apple is no longer supported. You will notice if you do a fresh install like I did on my MacBook Pro it is not there.
It only carried over due to the fact you had it installed in Lion which probably carried over from SL

I am sure Apple disabled it in ML

I can confirm that this worked for me even on an i5 2500 (HD 2000 Graphics).

I removed my 550 Ti and plugged my cable monitor over to my HD 2000 Graphics, did a clean install and when I rebooted into my Mountain Lion install I turned it off.
After turning it off I installed my graphics card again (EVGA 550 Ti) and turned it back on it worked! No graphic enablers or injections, just OOB. No screen tearing at all.

Thanks!

ahhh... that makes sense! found a fix anyway. probably won't be watching dvds on it anyway.

Good to know, Thanks Raistlin444
I am hoping this can get stickied by an admin because this would save a TON of trouble for most people. I just cant get the word out fast enough

This method didn't work for me OOB with an HD6950.

Will have to go the long route. :(

and you didnt delete any kexts off of anything before trying this method and you didnt type any flags in like PCIRootuid=something?
