I am looking for a single GPT/MBR hybrid drive legacy multi-booting guide. I can't boot into Linux after the install, and I can't get gptsync to work from the external live USB. I've done this before on a desktop system, unfortunately, I do not have the notes on it anymore.

Really hoping for this one. I haven't come across anything.

Managed to get the Mac, and Windows operating systems alone working.

Linux has been a pretty big fight. I am still at it a few days later, and I cannot get it to work. I have switched to Ext3, changed the location for the bootloader installation to EFI, the entire drive, and the Linux partition, set the Linux partition active in the Mac operating system, and vice versa, used gdisk, reinstalled the Chimera bootloader, reinstalled the Mac operating system, etc... gptsync gives an error message saying it won't touch the drive. The only thing that seems to get Linux to boot on its own is installing the bootloader to the entire drive. The Linux boot option has not once appeared in the Chimera bootloader, even from the external USB.

I would appreciate some help.

What version Mac OS are you installing? Are you installing Windows and if yes, what version?
Which guide are you talking about? (I have written several multi-boot guides)

Yosemite. Right now, I m not installing Windows. I am just trying to get the Mac operating system to cooperate with Linux. When I tried to install Linux earlier when I had the Mac operating system, and Windows, it would not work. I am using Windows 8.1. The guide that I am talking about is this one: https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/guide-multibooting-for-the-novice-updated-3-12-see-log.18658/
It specifically uses the keyword "format" for the Windows section, so from this, I knew it was close to, if not GPT/MBR hybrid.

What distro of Linux? Is it EFI bootable?

Suggest you use separate drives and follow this guide.
