Gigabyte B550 Vision D (Thunderbolt 3) + AMD Ryzen 7 3700X + AMD RX 5600 XT

Hello CaseySJ,

I hope I'm not hijacking your thread, but I didn't where to post my issue and seeing as you have pretty much the same mobo, at least chipset wise, I thought maybe you might be able to give me some guidance. My issue is I'm trying to install Big Sur and I'm getting kernel panics. I've tried some different kexts, but get past it. My specs are as follows,

Gigabyte B550M Aorous Pro-P
Ryzen 5600G onboard graphics
Sabrent NVMe 4.0pciE 500gb

Here's a pic my issue. Hopefully you have an idea as to what's going on. Should post my efi folder as well? I tried to, but wouldn't let me.

Thanks,
Steve
Hello Steve,

I also have a system with an AMD Ryzen 5600G, but unfortunately the AMD-OSX kernel patches do not support this processor at this time.

However, feel free to compress and post your EFI folder (without serial numbers in PlatformInfo section of config.plist) and I can at least check if the fundamentals are okay.

If your BIOS has the option to disable on-board iGPU, we should do that.

Thanks for the reply.

So I now need to get a graphics card? What cards are supported that are cheap? Don't need anything fancy. Did I make the wrong choice choosing to go AMD?

I did disable it, but now have no video. I guess I have to reset BIOS to get back in.

Also, I've never compressed any files before what do I use? I've got a 10yr old MacBook Pro. Never mind I figured it out.

Thanks,
Steve

Yes, please do a CMOS Reset and you'll be able to use on-board video again. As for cheap support AMD GPUs, the following are all good choices:
  • Radeon RX 460, 470, 480 (4GB models are much cheaper)
  • Radeon RX 560, 570, 580 (4GB models are much cheaper)
  • Radeon RX 5xxx series
  • Radeon RX 6600, 6600XT, 6800, 6800XT, and 6900XT
  • Radeon RX 6700 and 6700XT are not compatible

Did I make the wrong choice choosing to go AMD?
Not necessarily, but a Ryzen 5600G is not yet compatible. The following Ryzen processors will work, but they require a discrete AMD GPU:
  • Ryzen 5 3600X and 5600X
  • Ryzen 7 3700X, 3800X and 5800X
  • Ryzen 9 3900X, 5900X, 5950X
Another choice is an Intel Z490 board with 10th-Gen Comet Lake processors. The iGPU on those processors are natively supported in macOS.

Did you have a look at my EFI folder? Is it just the onboard graphics that's the issue? I previously had an Asrock Z390 Phantom Gaming iTX motherboard and an Intel i5-9600K CPU, and the onboard graphics worked awesome. Up until I wanted to update to Monterey. I had such issues getting anything to work with that mobo I just thought it would be better to go AMD. After watching videos of people having no issues getting it work. Now that I think about it they were using discreet graphics cards.

Thanks,
Steve

Yes, Intel graphics works fine (apart from newer ones).

OpenCore 0.7.6 has been released. Mini-guide coming soon.

Just reviewed the EFI folder and unfortunately there are several errors. I've tried to fix all the ones I could find. The attached config.plist has been saved in OpenCore 0.7.6 format. You can use it with OpenCore 0.7.5, but just ignore any OCS: Schema warnings that appear.

It will be necessary to copy serial numbers into PlatformInfo --> DataHub section before use.

Once again, let me add that Ryzen 7 5700G is not supported by AMD-OSX kernel patches, but you're welcome to see if the system boots with this config.plist...

Thanks so much. I really appreciate it. I'm going see if I can find a nice used graphics card locally. Prices are really high buying new. Just being curious, what errors did I make?

Thanks,
Steve

** OpenCore 0.7.6 EFI **
Gigabyte B550 Vision D / Gigabyte X570S Aero G / ASRock X570 Taichi

Supports Catalina, Big Sur, and Monterey
Please do not quote this post in its entirely. Use a link instead.

Also available from HackinDROM

Please use OpenCore Configurator 2.54.0.0 or 2.54.0.1 and ensure that it's set to
0.7.6 Development Configuration or 0.7.6 Release Version

When using OpenCore Configurator, ensure that only one EFI partition is mounted

Monterey -- What Does Not Work:
  • Both Intel I-211 Ethernet ports driven by SmallTreeIntel82576 are not working at this time. If an Ethernet port is needed, options include:
    • USB to Gigabit Ethernet adapter
    • USB to 2.5GbE Ethernet adapter
    • USB-C dock with built-in Ethernet port
    • Thunderbolt dock with built-in Ethernet port
  • Laird BT851 Bluetooth 5.0 USB dongle not working at this time.
  • Apple Thunderbolt to Gigabit Ethernet adapter is not working because it requires AppleVTD, which is not available on AMD Ryzen platforms.
  • Antelope Audio Thunderbolt interfaces do not work on AMD Ryzen platforms because they also require AppleVTD.
  • If Monterey is installed on Samsung NVMe SSDs, boot time can increase by 60-100 seconds due to "trim" incompatibilty.
    • This can be addressed by cloning the Samsung NVMe SSD to another disk, erasing the Samsung NVMe SSD with Disk Utility, and cloning macOS back. Please be careful with this process if you decide to do it.
  • Crucial P2 NVMe SSDs (only P2 series) also suffer from trim issues in Monterey.
Refer to this post by @macleap for workarounds.

This Update Includes:
  • OpenCore 0.7.6
  • VirtualSMC 1.2.8
  • Lilu 1.5.8
  • AppleALC 1.6.7
Instructions:
  • Download appropriate ZIP file and follow these instructions to configure config.plist.
  • If "Resizable BAR Support" is enabled in BIOS, set ResizableAppleGpuBars to 0 in Booter quirks.
  • Copy EFI folder to EFI partition of USB flash disk and boot from USB flash disk.
  • Ensure that REL-076-xxx appears on bottom right corner of OpenCanopy Picker.
  • If everything is okay, mount the EFI partition of USB flash disk and internal macOS SSD, then copy EFI folder from USB flash disk to internal macOS SSD.
Things to Test or Check:
  • Any OCS or other warnings before OpenCore picker appears?
  • Does Catalina, Big Sur, or Monterey boot properly?
  • Does Bluetooth work? Can you enable and disable Bluetooth?
  • Does Bluetooth work if you (a) boot into Windows and then (b) boot into macOS without doing a cold start?
  • If you use "Resizable BAR Support" in Windows, try enabling that in BIOS and check if macOS boots properly.

Catalina Users:
  • Set SecureBootModel to Disabled.

Everything seems ok with OpenCore 0.7.6 EFI (F13 Vision D - B550).
Don't forget to "follow these instructions" on the post !

@CaseySJ
What do you think about F14e firmware ?
On the description they said.
