Gigabyte Z390 M Gaming build with working NVRAM

The Install file should be in your Applications folder.

The Catalina file is not listed in the App Store currently.

But, the question is why can’t that command in Terminal be found? That seems a bit weird.

sudo: /Applications/Install macOS Catalina.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia: command not found

I did a cut & paste, so the command string was correct.

For the record, I'm on an iMac that is maxed out on High Sierra...

Look in your App Store purchase history for Catalina if you've downloaded it before.

If you have the Installer on an external drive, copy it to your Applications folder.

If neither of the above options are available to you, follow the instructions in the link below:

Catalina was not downloaded before as the iMac is is limited to High Sierra due to its age. That was what prompted purchasing a USB device with the Install files for Catalina and 4 earlier versions of OS X. Anyway, yes, the Install file is in the Applications folder and the result is the same: Command Not Found.

One other wrinkle. We do have a new M1 Mac Mini. Would this procedure work on that machine?

Actually, I just tried it on the Mini with the same result: Command Not Found...

creatinstallmedia is a command/unix executable inside the app bundle of the Catalina install that you downloaded and have on your computer.

Most likely what is happening is that you downloaded it to some other folder or disk on your computer. So you need to find the installer and either move it to the applications folder or replace /Applications/ with your path that you're typing in terminal.

(If you really want to check it's there or don't want to type/correct the path in terminal, you can right-click on the Install app and select 'show package contents', navigate to the createinstallmedia command, and then drop that direct in your terminal)

OK, I will work on this tonight. But, does it make a difference if I do the file creation on an M1 Mac Mini?

I don't know if the installer downloaded from an M1 Mac will be the same as those downloaded from an Intel Mac. You can try. The worse that can happen is that it won't boot.

It might refuse to run on a Big Sur installation or M1. That's perhaps the most likely fail mode (it certainly won't create a bootdisk for M1 because only Big Sur supports M1.

Two seconds of internoodling suggests to me there aren't many options to createinstallmedia in Catalina - it should make a 'universal' bootinstall disk, not model specific, as only intel systems were supported before Big Sur. (That might change going forward if apple's decided to split with different binaries in Big Sur - or it might have two binaries, M1 or Intel).

All you can do is try it.

(There may be a manpage somewhere for createinstalldisk but I don't know.)

OK, did the gibMacOS Tutorial ~ How to Download macOS Catalina Directly from Apple

It appears that I have successfully created an Install macOS Catalina application. However, the next step in the Tutorial is to run UniBeast to create the USB. How do I get back to OpenCore or Clover? Do I just stop at this point and pick up here at Page #1, Step 5 for Create Your USB Installer And Install macOS?

By the way, when I do a Get Info for the application, it says Kind: Application (Intel)...
