Gigabyte Z490 Vision D (Thunderbolt 3) + i5-10400 + AMD RX 580

Hi @CaseySJ
I built an hackintosh like yours but, as I read on dartonia website, I'm using SMBIOS 20.1. Apparently it's working fine. Why do you use 19.1 ? Is there any advantage that I miss ?

CaseySJ:

So, I got my Z490 10850 build pretty much done, thanks to your great work!! :headbang::headbang::headbang: Really like the board, especially with the F5 version of the bios!

Catalina is working just fine (with one caveat listed below) and so is Big Sur, as is Windows and Ubuntu. The only one I had to reinstall was Big Sur, but I just installed over the top (with a USB macOS install disk) and it was done and over fairly quickly. But Ubuntu, just so easy. New processor? No problem, booted right up, added some updates, no problem....If only Ubuntu could run Rosetta2.....and no luck on Mojave so far, but I think I'm going to try building a VM and see if I can make that work.

I do have one issue, however. Catalina does not want to shut down. No matter how I do it, keyboard or using the menu choices, it just won't shut down - it just sits there. I did some searching this thread and others, but didn't come up with much. I already tried changing energy settings and adjusting pmset with no change. On the other hand, Big Sur has no problems shutting down, nor does Windows or Ubuntu...

Any quick thoughts? Things to try?

Thanks for the great work on this build!
Glad to hear it -- so many operating systems in one place!

Regarding Catalina shutdown, please check if SSDT-NVRAM.aml is enabled in ACPI section of config.plist. Try it both ways to see if it makes any difference.

When this build guide was created, there was no iMac20,1! The closest system was iMac19,1.

By the way, are you able to use Sidecar (with iPad)?

Hello @jerrium,

The Dell S3221QS is not a Thunderbolt monitor -- it is a standard 4K HDMI/DisplayPort monitor. You are most likely using a USB-C to DisplayPort cable.

Please go to System Preferences --> Sound and check the following:
View attachment 496261View attachment 496260
  • Sound Effects -- Selected sound output device
  • Output -- Choose your Dell monitor from this list
Does your Dell monitor appear in the Output list?
Thank you for your quick reply.

Still no Dell monitor here.

I use the converter cable from thunderbolt3 to dp. Mac book pro users usually use this cable to connect tb3 to external monitor.
this is screenshot of cable:

And i also use hdmi to hdmi cable to connect z490 to dell monitor. Also no dell monitor in Sound-Output page.

Hello @CaseySJ and all other Hackintosh experts - Very impressive set of guides. I am trying to do a fresh install of Big Sur given it was just released (Public Version). I followed your setup steps but could not get very far in the install of Big Sur....Maybe I did something wrong or the setup of Big Sur is different than Catalina??? My hardware is as follows:
-Gigabyte Z490 Vision D
-Intel i9-10900K
-64GB DDR4-4000 RAM
-Sapphire Radeon 5700XT
-2TB T-Force M.2 NVMe SSD Gen 4

The only change I made to your Intel config.plist (besides Platform info) is to enable verbose and Radeaon 5700 XT boot arg.

The system locks up - stops the install process right at the start. I have attached a screen shot of the single page that gets displayed before things come to a complete stop.

I tried pulling the video cables out, switching to HDMI cable, placing the install USB in a different location, removing everything plugged into the machine besides keyboard - mouse, .....

Any guesses?

Appreciate the help.

You should be using the AMD GPU plist.

Hi all, @CaseySJ

have a question on the prohibitory sign I sometimes see at boot.
Have a Gigabyte Z490 Vision G I'm running with OpenCore.
The configuration is similar to the Vision D.
Initially I have been running this PC with 1 x 32GB memory stick. The PC was running and is running with no issues at all. At some point I installed a second 32GB memory stick and since that moment, once in a while, I get the prohibitory sign when I do a reboot in MacOS. Switching off and then booting seems to run with no issues.

When I had a Gigabyte Z390 implemented with Clover, that was caused by memory issues. At the time I fixed it rising the timings and didn't experience the issue anymore.
Can that sign have anything to do with memory, or is it configuration related?

Thanks for your help.

Opps.....I saw that file as AMD CPU ...And I thought to myself why is that file in here for a Z490 motherboard.....Brain Fart!

Thank You.

In addition, please check that CFG-Lock is disabled in BIOS —> Boot section.
