The everything works Asus Z390-I Gaming * i7-8700K * SAPPHIRE NITRO+ Radeon RX Vega 64 Build

The overall recommendation seems to be to modify the cooling block rather than leaving it off to avoid over heating issues. Cutting a hole in it to accommodate the taller card makes sense to me to get OOB connectivity and to avoid the arm wresting some folks have had with bluetooth (if you don't mind the destructive aspect of it).

I agree, the temperatures are significantly lower (5C or so) under heavy load with the modified block than without it.

Dremel, 20 minutes, and lots of aluminium dust.

Having a strange issue need help and or confirmation. When I try to update Clover on my Catalina 10.15 machine, I get the error:

Cannot install without ensuring the file system is read-write

I suspect the issue is that OSX somehow converted my EFI portion into a volume within an APFS container. Is this even possible? Isn't the EFI partition supposed to be a separate physical partition outside APFS? I created a separate EFI FAT 32 partition but it it still seems to boot from the APFS container volume EFI.

Can someone confirm where the EFI partition is supposed to be?

Thanks!

After clean 10.15.1 install based on this guide it looks like this:
Code:
% diskutil list

/dev/disk0 (internal, physical):
   #: TYPE NAME SIZE IDENTIFIER
   0: *1.0 TB disk0

/dev/disk1 (internal, physical):
   #: TYPE NAME SIZE IDENTIFIER
   0: GUID_partition_scheme *1.0 TB disk1
   1: EFI EFI 209.7 MB disk1s1
   2: Apple_APFS Container disk2 1000.0 GB disk1s2

/dev/disk2 (synthesized):
   #: TYPE NAME SIZE IDENTIFIER
   0: APFS Container Scheme - +1000.0 GB disk2
                                 Physical Store disk1s2
   1: APFS Volume Catalina - Data 46.6 GB disk2s1
   2: APFS Volume Preboot 81.3 MB disk2s2
   3: APFS Volume Recovery 528.5 MB disk2s3
   4: APFS Volume VM 2.1 GB disk2s4
   5: APFS Volume Catalina 10.7 GB disk2s5

And for error "Cannot install ..." reboot with SIP disabled.

PS: ty for great guide!

So, I THOUGHT I tried with SIP disabled but realized that it was reset by Clover. In order to update Clover we will need to to change it in Clover:

Updated EFIs for Catalina 10.15.1:

1) All Kexts updated to latest versions, compiled using Hackintool (super slick)
2) Changed audio map to 1, let me know if that works better
3) Change default GPU to Auto (PEG didn't work for me in Catalina, guide updated)
4) Port limit removal patch still works fine

First observation is that 10.15.1 boots faster. The second boot screen appears immediately, probably due to refined discrete graphics drivers. The "annoying" coloured line flash is still there.

I've built my first hackintosh with quite the same compontents like ModMike did.

Everything was new for me, so I started with installation of Mojave with EFI-Folder of Mike. Everything works fine. But then I made some mistakes. To prevent others I want to share them with you.

1. Do not login to iCloud before changing the serial number of your hackintosh
After installation I immediately logged into iCloud. Fault number 1... The serial number of the installation was written to my iCloud account. For more... see second fault.

2. Changing serial number in Clover Configurator should be done very conscientious
I changed the model of the Mac! I did it and Bluetooth said goodbye because I choose an older model to be sure that my serial number will be unique even in the future. But I didn't realize that this changes my hardware configuration, too.

I generated serial number three or four times, then signed into my and my girlfriends iCloud. And at some point iMessage didn't work anymore. After checking my iCloud-account I realized, that the serial number of my hackintosh doesn't match the one in my iCloud-account and my girlfriends account, too. That costs me over an hour. I have to change the serial number of my Mac to every serial number I want to delete from these accounts. But at the end, everything works fine.

3. Updating Mojave to Catalina
I've done this directly over preferences -> software update, without updating my EFI-Drive. So came what had to come. Blackscreens occur an my RX580 didn't work anymore. And now? I'm installling Mojave second time. But I've read the guides before.
I did and recommend these steps:
a) backup old EFI-Partition
b) Updating Clover and UEFI-Drivers matching with the one in my EFI-Folder -> reboot
c) Starting Clover Configurator -> mount EFI-Partition -> select config.plist
d) Update Kexts in Folder kexts/other/ (whatevergreen, lilu, AppleALC) -> but you can update them all -> reboot
e) Run the installer of Catalina 10.15.1 (no black screens or other problems)
f) everything works fine for me

4. Get Final Cut Pro X to work
After installation of FCPX the App crashed directly after the start. So... searching the forum and found these guides:
[Guide] How to fix Final Cut Pro Crashes on Startup (open) UHD630 + RX580 High Sierra/ Mojave
[GUIDE] Installing 3rd Party Kexts - El Capitan, Sierra, High Sierra, Mojave, Catalina

Now I'm very satisfied with my Hackintosh and everything works, like Modmike said.

Special thanks @ModMike & @Water99 & the great community in this forum!

Greetings from Germany.

Glad it worked, not sure why generated 3 or 4 serial numbers and tested by signing in. You can easily cause yourself a lot of issues with iCloud and continuity like that, believe me, I know! Follow the instructions and use the built in Clover Configurator tool to validate a serial#.

Plenty of people have had issues with Bluetooth but I never heard of model choice being a factor, stick to the models in the EFIs. Bluetooth probably kicked in after a reboot and had nothing to do with model change.

With my current level of knowledge, I would avoid the experiments with the serial number as far as possible. Especially in terms of iCloud...

I use your recommended Dell Wifi/ BLuetooth card and all features work great. But after installation of Mojave I have chosen a model from 2017, so that in the settings no icon and functionality for bluetooth were available. Trubbelshooting took a lot of time... but, after switching to the model from 2019, bluetooth works fine again.

I am thinking about doing something very similar to this but not a fan of the case honestly, do you think the NZXT H210i would work for this build such as rgb, fans, and I/O ports? If not what would you recommend? This build is awesome thank you for sharing and your time!
