Hey guys;

when I wanna install Mojave on my Crucial MX500 the disk utility doesn't find it. I formatted the drive to MacOS Extended (Journaled). The Crucial online guide said this. The BIOS lists the SSD and I also enabled it under advanced Settings (F6).

Does anyone know how to fix it? I'm stuck since 2 days:/

Thanks a lot

The BIOS lists the SSD and I also enabled it under advanced Settings (F6).
That means the disk is not dead.

  • How were you able to Format the disk in Disk Utility ( I presume it was in real Mac or working Hackintosh) when the DU cannot find it?
  • Did you try the Terminal command?
  • Since you have not posted any Display Screen shots to supplement what you are trying to say in text, my best guess for your problem is NOT clicking View> Show all devices [See Composite image Menu >View [Before and After] clicking View >Show ALL Devices]

I wanna install Mojave on my new Hackintosh. The problem starts after choosing language in the installation of Mojave. The Disk Utility doesn't show my SSD where I want to install Mojave. I've also tried to click "show all devices" but the SSD is still not there.

Before I built in the SSD I formatted it with my MacBook so that the Hackintosh can read it (Mac OS Extended Journaled).

How can I format my SSD with the terminal?

Thanks in advance!

  • From the information you have given , my suspicion is that the SATA Port to which you have connected the SSD is although recognized by BIOS is NOT recognized by CLOVER inside your USB Installer.

  • Normally you don't need to use the Disk Utility of a Mac or working Hack to pre-partition and Pre-Format any hard disks (SSD/SpinDisk) before installing it to the SATA Port of a Motherboard you are going to use to create a Hackintosh.
    • The macOSMojave Installer Disk has all the required files like Disk Utility to do that job.
  • The SSD is best formatted in APFS and NOT MacOS Extended (Journaled) although the installer, as a second step, will automatically convert that disk as APFS.
  • Do you have any other Hard disks connected to the Motherboard besides the Pre-formatted SSD?
  • Are they seen in the DU? It is best to disconnect all other SATA drives leaving only the target HDD/SSD connected to SATA Port -0 during Installation.
  • Since I don't know details of your Motherboard's SATA controller Chipsets, I won't be able to say why the SSD that is partitioned in GUID and formatted in HFS+J was not seen in Clover Boot Manager (CBM) screen as normally the case and again in DU by the Installer USB.
  • Please upload your CLOVER from the hidden EFI partition of the USB Installer disk as a zipped file using the bulleted steps-> #4

@cmn699 Thanks for your detailed answer!

I also have a Samsung Evo 970 Pro but I've read that this SSD doesn't work for a Hackintosh, unfortunately! The DU can read the Evo 970 Pro.
That's why I want to take the Crucial. The BIOS can recognise the Crucial, I also enabled it and the cables are all in and new.

Here's the Clover Folder, the BIOS and a pic of the SATA Chipset:

  • I have reviewed your BIOS screen shot and found a Problem; I have yet to review the uploaded CLOVER in detail.
  • Please note the edited BIOS screen shot which lacks AHCI needed for SATA disks to be seen by CLOVER
  • I have uploaded a Screen shot for comparison with the proper way to configure that menu for Hackintosh.

Thank you very much @cmn699 *-*
Now the hackintosh recognises the Crucial!

But there is still a small problem:

1. I booted the USB Stick
2. I chose the language
3. in DU I formatted the Crucial to APFS
4. I clicked on Install Mojave, confirmed license and chose the Crucial SSD to install
5. Installation crashed after 3 min (2 min left)
6. Back in the boot menu I took the third device on the right (Install on Hackintosh) to boot it
5. Installation crashed at minute 13

Then I've read this: https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/...vo-freeze-on-last-2-mins.266292/#post-1863958

What do you think about it?

Was APFS wrong? Do I have to format it to Mac OS Extended Journaled?
Do I have to use the prebooter?
Is it the correct way?

Again thank you so much for your help! It's my first Hackintosh

  • My impression at this time:
    • BIOS fields are properly edited
    • CLOVER-FileTree and its config.plist need editing to avoid that last minute hitch during installation from lack of a properly stocked drivers 64UEFI or according to current CLOVER , drivers/UEFI
    • config.plist_Gui_Hide Volume: edit the current blank menu as shown
  • Please make changes to your EFI-CLOVER and its config.plist_Gui as shown in the uploaded edited screen image of your EFI_CLOVER FileTree with annotations.
  • Reboot the edited macOSMojave USB Installer in Verbose mode and if you get problem anywhere upload images just like you have done now.
Edited: added a sample image of CBM screen after editing config.plist_Gui_hide volume -> + Preboot
  • Formatting in APFS is NOT the cause for your current issue: it is drivers/UEFI in Z390

Which drivers do I have to choose with MultiBeast?
  • I don't use Multibeast.
  • If your USB installer has worked successfully to install your system and you have reached the desktop, that USB installer's 'hidden' EFI Folder has everything this Hard disk needs to boot to its own desktop without having to use the USB installer disk as crutch from BIOS Boot Options to CBM screen and to the Login and Desktop.
  • All you have to do now is to copy that EFI Folder from its hidden EFI Partition and Paste it on the hidden EFI partition of the Mojave System SSD, to replace the dummy EFI folder sitting there

check the bulleted steps-: #4

  • Once you boot back to Mojave System Desktop download and launch , Kext Utility or Kext beast and drag and drop the kexts from Clover/kexts/Other to Kext Utility after launching and password input and the rest will be automatic
