MacBookPro14,1 would be a better choice

what happens when you don't boot using cpus=1?
Will change to 14,1

Without cpus=1 it hangs at apple logo or, if it boots, goes into the login loop described in the first post

updated everything, but the only way to boot is with cpus=1 flag

also tried replacing VirtualSMC with FakeSMC, but no change.
would it be worth trying VoodooTSCSync?

certainly worth a try

I assume you are using the latest version of High Sierra? it may be worth trying Mojave

VoodooTSCSync with IOCPUNumber set to 7 did the trick!
I can boot super fast without cpus=1 flag.
My only concern now is that while AppleIntelInfo and Intel Power Gadget show power management working, HWMonitor only sees 2 CPU cores instead of 4.

I know... This thread is about a friend's hackintosh, same laptop, same hardware, apart from from the processor, which is an i5-8250U, 4 cores
