Radeon RX 4XX/5XX standalone system, AMDRadeonX4250.kext (GVA support H264) does not support HEVC HW

Yesterday I've installed new CPU 4770K running it at 4.4GHz, to replace my Xeon(E3-1231 V3 no iGPU). Everything is running better now especially in FCPX, before hackintosh was fast but now everything is properly fast and snappy. Also temps of the dGPU(RX 580) are much less, about 10 degrees around 30-45, so fans are not even spinning, where before temps where just at around 40-55 and non stop switching on/off.

Rendering in FCPX and exporting is now like 10 faster for 4k and about 4-5 times for 1080p all in H.264. Over all very satisfied with this now. I'm waiting for new CPU cooler and will try to push this CPU little further to see what can be done with it.

So, as I said before if this turns out good with exporting H.264 will not even bother with just dGPU for Hardware encoding.

Also in these few testes I've noticed what I was suspected before, that FCPX will use iGPU in conjunction with dGPU for h.264 exporting/encoding. It seems to me that these two are working together(not just iGPU) for encoding(not just rendering). Because speeds are about the same as before when I enabled dGPU encoding(with green artefacts). I don't know if that is the same with you but this is something I noticed in these few tests I tried so far, will try to test further more to see if that is the case or I'm imagining things now :).
I would just like to add that I'm using iMac15,1 SMBIOS which is haswell refresh as I know, I know I should use 14.2, but I'm testing with this now and it is stable so far...

Exactly What I was suffering with X99 build with 5820K. Then I changed to 6700K with RX 580, everything works so perfect specially FCPX. I can see that dGPU and iGPU are working simultaneously when I expert H.264. Now x99 setup is for Windows 10 with GTX 980 for Gaming. Very much happy with Skylake system.

With 6700K + RX 580, do you still need the dummy141.kext for dGPU to anticipate the encoding and decoding?

Not yet all. I just use WEG and Lilu kext in L/E. When I use effects in FXPX, dGPU and iGPU trigger 100%. But without any effects, only iGPU is triggered. I think it is well optimized. Correct me if I am wrong.

Seems to be off-topic here, this thread is AMD GVA H264/HEVC discussion, mainly for RX4XX/5XX standalone system.

Help!!! Updated today to the latest version 10.14.4 (non beta). Green artifacts remained! What to do?

Wait until we have an iMac19,x SMBIOS.

Hi Everyone, a bit late to the party here, but I am using release version of macOS 10.14.4 with iMacPro1,1 SMBIOS and RX 580 8GB, and have hardware encoding working with dummy141.kext only (and PEGP to GFX0 in Clover).

./VDADecoderCheckerSierra

Hardware acceleration is fully supported

also, MacX Video Converter Pro shows RX 580 with Hardware Encoding = Yes

I don't know what I am doing wrong, but playback with MPV of test HEVC file is still decoding in software???

Is there a better method of testing or better software to test playback is hardware accelerated??

Many thanks for any help in advance :)

Ummm, never mind... VLC Media Player did the trick :)

With MPV it looked more like this:

PS. Do I need to type in
defaults write com.apple.AppleGVA forceATI -boolean yes
at every boot, or does this setting stick? Is there a way to automate this if the setting isn't saved?
