[Guide] Install High Sierra on the HP 8300 Elite / 6300 Pro Desktop PC

I know we don't have an official guide for these series of HP's yet as far as installing Mojave but the general 'Update Directly to macOS Mojave' worked fine for me on the 8300 USDT, with the exception of sound. Previously on High Sierra I followed the guide for sound (to enable the Realtek ALC221 audio - patched dsdt) but of course as expected doesn't work after update.
Anyone have any quick tips to get sound back, or might I need to follow the whole sound guide again?

Mojave dropped support for a lot of audio codecs and the one used by the 8300 was one of them. The latest AppleALC has a workaround for it. Try updating AppleALC, Lilu, and WhateverGreen (if you use it).

Straight update worked for me on CMT, no issues with patched DSDT audio in HS.

with the exception of sound.
Check your versions of lilu , applealc kexts,
the latest (v1.2.7, v1.3.2) worked for me on a clean install using KextBeast into Library/Extensions.
I think location might be important, in part because I think Clover Config puts them in /EFI/Clover/Kext/Other on the EFI partition and the recommendation? is they go in /L/E.

Check you dont have them in both locations

not sure if duplicity effects function but it will make it easier to troubleshoot.

Make a note of your sip settings,

I think the kexts will need permissions to run but don't know what they should be - I think mine are as loose as they can be but such a low level of security may (probably) not be necessary. ie My Clover
RT Variables--BooterConfig = 0x28, and CSRActiveConfig = 0x67

Otherwise the old faves of rebuilding the caches and rebooting a few times - the mac equivalent of wd40.

Got too excited and updated to mojave, the install worked but didn't realize about the nvidia drivers... How would I go about rolling back? Would I be able to run the high sierra installer and "upgrade" to high sierra while keeping everything how it was like how I updated to Mojave? Or would it be more complex going down? Don't feel like running through the guide again lol

If it is I'll probably just wait it out, I got another drive with Windows and I haven't lost any data so its not that big of a deal.

EDIT: Another thing I'd be willing to try is just using my intel hd4000 for the time being, would I have to change anything in clover or could I just plug into the motherboard? Only asking cause im not home rn, will probably try it anyways when im back

Make the changes in clover before you pull the card and it should just work.
The only change in Clover that I can think of is - anything to do with nvidia or amd - leave empty in clover config,
(the whole of the Clover Configurator - Graphics - section is bare)

Do you have any audio settings or kexts for the Nvidia?
You might (probably will) need the latest versions of lilu and appleAlc kexts if thats what you used before.

Thanks for the reply, before reading your comment i tried plugging into the motherboard without taking out my card and wasn't seeing my bios screen. Didn't know I had to remove my GPU first so that probably explains it. I don't use my motherboard's audio, i have an interface so the kexts don't matter right? Maybe wrong on that one still new to this stuff :p Either way not sure which kexts im using, i checked the guide and saw it was updated with some new ones which i definitely don't have.

I've already decided on just going back to high sierra, im backing up all my important data rn, gonna wipe and restart the guide. Not that bummed just gonna take this as a learning experience to not jump the gun ;) . At least now I know when the nvidia drivers are released it'll easy to update just from the app store.

I play games on the windows side with my friends so having to plug & unplug my graphics card would be a hassle. I just came up on a 2012 macbook pro so at least while I'm reinstalling everything i'll have another pc to use in the meantime

What about upgrading my HP to Mojave ?
If you have a metal capable graphics card (RX560/ non-XFX or GT 710) or Intel HD4000 integrated graphics you can get full graphics acceleration in Mojave 10.0. If you have an Nvidia graphics card (750 Ti, GT 1030 or GTX 1050 (Ti) ) you will need to wait awhile for the Nvidia web drivers for Mojave. So be patient, there is no definite date for their release. Nvidia, for whatever reason is not in a hurry to support Mac Pro users with their Nvidia drivers. I would guess that it will take at least until the .1 or .2 update of Mojave by Apple for them to appear. High Sierra still works, keep using it until then.

I have the GTX 1050 Ti and it's coming up in the system information as metal capable... will I still have to wait for the web drivers?
