Hi all,

So herewith my specs:

i7-3770
Asus Maximus IV Extreme Z
16 GB DDR3-1866
Asus ROG Strix RX 480 Gaming 8GB

I've been pulling my hair out (I am now bald) trying to install High Sierra 10.13.2. It's the only version of the installer I have. I can get all the way through the installer boot process, DSMOS has arrived, etc, but it just boots to black screen. I know this is a common issue with the RX 480. Do I need a later version of 10.13 for it to work?

I have extracted my DSDT, patched it as per the many guides on here (only four warnings after final compiling) but still I can't get to the installer landing page. I know it's there, it's just behind a black screen.

I have also tried enabling the iGPU and setting it as primary as per other threads on this site, but I am now out of ideas.

Please advise! Thanks in advance.

Cheers :)

Isn't there an AMD x4000 series kext floating around? Anyone have it?

For Sierra and HS 13.0-13.5 you need clover/graphics/rad de init, or you can use lilukext and whatevergreenkext in clover/kext/other folder where you put fakesmckext.
HS 13.6 fixed the issue but it should work with a recent version of clover and rad de init.

Thanks for the reply. I’m using the latest version of whatever green and lilu kexts. Haven’t tried rad de init though. Will check it out.

Unfortunately it didn't work. Should I remove lilu and whatevergreen kexts if I use RadeonDeInit? Is it either or?

Cheers :)

I've taken a totally different approach on this.

I have booted into the install USB with VMWare and installing on an external drive with that. Seems to be working. Will then install Clover, patched DSDT and kexts thereafter. At least that will let me update to 10.13.6 and hopefully circumnavigate the issues I'm having.

Thanks for all the help!

Cheers :)

It's working!

HIgh Sierra VMWare.JPG

Ok so VMWare was helpful to install High Sierra to the drive, but it still boots to black screen. I've tried all I could find. RadeonDeInit, Whatevergreen and Lilu kexts, all the relevant Radeon kexts, DSDT patch, etc etc.

I just cannot get my RX 480 to produce signal after the Apple logo.

I'm out of ideas and have given up.

Cheers :)
